Pokémon Sword & Shield Event Brings Shiny Shellder To Wild Area

A new event in Pokémon Sword and Shield has increased the chances of encountering a Shiny Shellder in the Wild Area of the Galar region. The Pokémon Company is currently promoting the latest entries in the series, with Pokémon BDSP and Arceus receiving Pokémon Home support, but Pokémon Sword and Shield are still receiving content updates.

The Pokémon series has made it a lot easier to catch Shiny Pokémon over the years. The introduction of the Masuda method made it easier to breed Shiny Pokémon, while the Shiny Charm from Gen V made it easier for Shiny Pokémon to appear overall. The Pokémon Company does give away Shiny Pokémon from time to time, such as the Shiny Beldum that early adopters of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire received, but the process of breeding or capturing a Shiny Pokémon is still arduous, even with the extra help.

Pokémon Sword and Shield has featured limited-time Max Raid Battle Events, where the chances of encountering a Shiny Pokémon are increased, with a recent event involving an increased chance of encountering a Shiny Pokémon Red and Blue starter Pokémon. The Pokémon Company has revealed that a new Wild Area event has arrived in Pokémon Sword and Shield. According to Serebii on Twitter, the next Wild Area event will involve Shellder appearing in Pokémon Dens throughout the Galar region, with the event running until 23:59 UTC on May 22, 2022.

The Pokémon Sword and Shield Max Raid Battle Events involve specific Pokémon appearing in greater numbers, with a higher than normal chance of a Shiny version appearing. The chances of encountering one are still low, but they’re higher than just encountering a Pokémon in the wild, especially as it’s easier for players to chain battles with one specific type of Pokémon. A group of four players can also get a shot at catching a Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Sword & Shield.

The regular Shellder in the Pokémon series have a purple shell, which matches that of their evolution, Cloyster. The Shiny Shellder in the Pokémon series have quite a different color scheme, as they have a bright orange shell. Unfortunately, this distinction doesn’t remain when it evolves, as Shiny Cloyster has a dark blue shell, which isn’t that dissimilar from its main coloring. A Shiny Shellder is still an incredibly rare Pokémon and while it might not be as colorful as a Cloyster, it’s still evolving into a powerful Pokémon. Pokémon Legends: Arceus may have devalued Shiny Pokémon in recent times, but these rare variations still hold a lot of value in the Galar region.

Shellder and Shiny Shellder will appear in the Wild Area in Pokémon Sword & Shield until May 22 at 23:59 UTC.
