Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Will Feature Music From Undertale’s Toby Fox

Music composer and Undertale creator Toby Fox has created field music featured in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The newest installments in the creature collection franchise will kick off Generation 9 by introducing a new region and a whole host of brand-new pocket monsters. A Toby Fox song in Pokémon Sword and Shield gives the auteur some history with Nintendo’s beloved franchise, and his work will grace the next entries too.

Revealed back in February 2022, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet promise to introduce key innovations for Pokémon Trainers to enjoy. The titles will feature a large open-world region, reportedly based on Spain, for players to explore. Generation 9 will naturally introduce a whole host of new Pokémon, including Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s starter trio of Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly and the beloved pig Lechonk. The titles will also feature multiplayer cooperative play, letting up to four Pokémon Trainers customize their characters and work together and catch ’em all. A November 18 release date for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet means that the amazing new adventure will arrive just in time for the holidays.

As revealed by Toby Fox on Twitter, the skilled composer and game developer will once again lend his musical talents to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Fox reports that he composed field music for the exciting open-world adventure, which developer Game Freak then arranged into multiple different versions to suit specific areas. Watching the newly-released Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer gives players a small taste of the upbeat and adventurous tune that will accompany them throughout the two titles, which will release on November 18.

While he has apparently kept busy by making music for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, many fans are curious about Toby Fox’s ongoing development of Deltarune. As a follow-up to Undertale, the role-playing adventure sees players embark on a quest save the world using a unique role-play system. Deltarune Chapter 2 was released for free in September 2021, and subsequent paid releases are expected to follow in the future. It is currently unclear how long Deltarune will be in its entirety, but the project is sure to keep Toby Fox busy for some time.

Toby Fox contributed to Pokémon Sword and Shield, as well as other Nintendo projects like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, so his involvement in the next Pokémon games seems natural. Field music is an important part of immersing players within a game’s unique region, and Toby Fox has an abundance of experience creating immersive and emotional experiences of his own. As players explore Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to bolster their pocket monster collection, they are sure to hear a bit of Undertale influence come through in the field music.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will release on November 18, 2022 for Nintendo Switch.
