Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Leak Claims Gen 9 Is Missing Classic Feature

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Leak Claims Gen 9 Is Missing Classic Feature

A major Pokémon Scarlet and Violet leak claims that Gen 9 will be the first region to drop a popular evolution feature in over 22 years. Following the first Pokémon Scarlet and Violet gameplay trailer in June, a wave of leaks about the new Pokémon generation began to flood online. With all the leaked information eventually proven accurate, it means that Scarlet and Violet could be aiming to ditch a beloved evolution category that has been present in every Pokémon region previously.

In the 1996 Pokémon Red and Blue games, Game Freak introduced the concept of Fossil Pokémon, which could be revived from special fossilized items. In each game, players are allowed to choose a single Fossil, which allows them to obtain a Jurassic Pokémon. Because of the mechanics massive popularity, every Generation has included Fossil Pokémon except the Gen 2 Pokémon Gold and Silver games in 2000. Even then, Johto still allowed players to obtain Aerodactyl though after trading a Chansey with an NPC in the Kanto region. If a Pokémon Scarlet and Violet leak is to be believed, Paldea will be the first region in decades to not feature the pre-historic Pokémon.

Will Gen 9 Have Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Fossil Pokémon?

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Leak Claims Gen 9 Is Missing Classic Feature

In July, the Pokémon community was turned on its head when a mysterious leaker named “Kaka’ posted screenshots of every Scarlet and Violet Gym Leader online. Incredibly, the images were later confirmed to be real after many of the characters from the photos appeared in official Gen 9 update trailers. The insider continued to leak additional details about the Paldea Games in advance. The Kaka account even posted a screenshot of the new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Farigiraf evolution, four months before it was eventually revealed.

With all the leaks now confirmed real, it appears that Gen 9 will also not have Fossil Pokémon. In an original July tweet re-posted by Centro LEAKS, the mysterious leaker explained that “all Fossil Pokémon” are not coming back. The user also added that the Paldea Pokédex would not be introducing any new Fossil Pokémon, either.

The insider’s claims appeared to be backed up after the Gen 9 Pokédex was reportedly leaked in early October by infamous Pokémon insider Riddler Khu, who posted an image of the final dex. While the leaked Paldean Pokédex doesn’t include new Gen 9 Pokémon, it does confirm all returning classic characters, and Fossil Pokémon are notably absent from the image. With the July Pokémon Scarlet and Violet leaks stating that “all” Fossil Pokémon do not return to the November RPGs, it seems likely that the popular pre-historic creatures will be left out. If true, this means Scarlet and Violet will break a long-running tradition for the first time since the Johto region debuted in 2000. However, it’s still unknown whether Fossil Pokémon will be added in later with future DLC, so the Fossil Pokémon could one day make their way to Paldea.
