Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX: How To Beat Rayquaza (Final Boss)

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX: How To Beat Rayquaza (Final Boss)

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX’s final boss is the legendary dragon-type Pokemon, Rayquaza. This guide will help players defeat the final boss of the game. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX is unlike any other entry in the Pokemon franchise. Rather than capturing Pokemon by entering the wild areas, the player themselves are transformed into a Pokemon from a human and have a special role in saving this new world. The gameplay has players traversing mystery dungeons, randomly generated locations around the world of Pokemon, going floor by floor deeper into its depths. It functions much faster when compared to the mainline Pokemon games since moves are instant and battles can end within seconds. In this game, the player is tasked with saving the world and partners up with another Pokemon of their choice and creates a rescue team. The player can recruit other Pokemon to join the team and this remake actually introduces shiny Pokemon, extremely rare color variants, for the first time in this spinoff series history. Regardless of remaining the first stage of evolution (since evolution is not unlocked until the postgame) the two main characters are tasked with taking down legendary Pokemon all around the land to bring peace to the world. This guide will help players defeat the final boss of the main storyline, Rayquaza.

Immediately after defeating Groudon in the Magma Cavern and rescuing the popular Team A.C.T (cleverly named after Alakazam, Charizard, and Tyranitar), the entire Pokemon Square is contacted by the psychic bird Pokemon, Xatu. Xatu warns the town that a meteor is coming to crash into the planet, destroying it on impact. The player is not given much time to rest or celebrate their current victory above Groudon, as they are expected to make their way into the sky to find Rayquaza to stop the meteor the very next morning. The entire town believes in the ability of the player’s rescue team and cheers for their safe return from their perilous journey. Using a teleport gem, the player is warped into Sky Tower, the most challenging mystery dungeon up to this point. This location is sure to knock players down a peg, as very powerful Pokemon wander each floor of the dungeon. Also, the player is not allowed to recruit any Pokemon they meet in this dungeon. They can only bring three Pokemon, including themselves. This guide will help players defeat the final boss of Sky Tower, Rayquaza

Traversing Sky Tower in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX: How To Beat Rayquaza (Final Boss)

Before reaching Rayquaza, it is important to prepare for Sky Tower, as it is the most challenging dungeon in the game up to this point. Rayquaza is both flying and a dragon type Pokemon, meaning bringing an Ice-Type Pokemon along is ideal in this situation. Also, bringing a Pokemon that knows ice moves will also be helpful. It is recommended to leave all important healing items (Tiny Reviver Seeds, Oran berries) in the storage before making the first attempt at Sky Tower. There are 25 floors before reaching a middle point where players can restock and collect their items. This is the perfect time to stock up on Blast Seeds, and Orbs that prevent movements like Foe-Hold Orb or Slumber Orb. Also, bringing along an All Dodge Orb will make it easier to avoid Rayquaza’s powerful attacks.

Once reaching the top floor of the tower, before doing anything, the game has an autosave feature that saves after every move. Meaning if the player screws up, they will lose all of there items and not have a way to get them back. To combat this, if players have a Nintendo Switch Online Subscription, turn off the auto-update feature and put the current save in the cloud. If the player dies, redownload the save to pick up where the player left off at the beginning of the fight. Now let’s deal with taking Rayquaza down.

Beating Rayquaza in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX Hyper Beam

At the start of the fight, use the All Dodge Orb to avoid most of Rayquaza’s hits. Set the entire team’s tactics to “Go after foes” so they focus fire on Rayquaza. The team will surround Rayquaza and attack. Use Orbs and Seeds to halt its movements as much as possible. After a while, Rayquaza will use the wind to send players in random directions. Avoid the green spaces on the ground to avoid this hit. Set the Ice-typed Pokemon to use only its Ice-type moves until they run out of PP. In this situation, use a Max Elixir to fill it back up. Try and stay close to Rayquaza as they can strengthen the player’s move pool. Using moves that have a chance to do status effects like burn, freeze or paralysis should be a priority, as this can cripple Raquaza’s abilities heavily. Rayquaza can also do a powerful Hyper Beam. Avoid staying too close to each other to avoid getting multiple teammates hit by the same attack. Barrage Rayquaza with several attacks until the screen fades white and the boss has been defeated.

Defeating Rayquaza will conclude the main storyline of the game. Players are greeted by a pretty heart-wrenching scene that tests the bonds between the player and their partner Pokemon. Although, the game has several hours of new postgame content, including the ability to evolve Pokemon, several new mystery dungeons to explore, and the ability to recruit legendary Pokemon on to the player’s rescue team. The post-game also provides more story and context between other characters that have yet to be explored. The game does an excellent job of building the relationship between the Pokemon and their partner. It truly feels like two friends coming together for a common good. It may take a few attempts to get through the Sky Tower, especially for those players who have selected grass type Pokemon (these have the largest pool of weaknesses when compared to the other starter types). Beating the final boss is just the beginning of what Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX has to offer players. Hopefully, with the success of the remake, the sequel will also be remade as well.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
