Pokémon GO: Every Eevee Evolution Explained

Pokémon GO: Every Eevee Evolution Explained

Eevee has more evolutions – or Eeveelutions – than any other Pokémon, and Pokémon GO does things a little differently than the main series games when it comes to evolving this popular Normal-type known for its great potential. There are currently seven Eeveelutions available in Pokémon GO, but December 2020 released the first wave of Generation 6 Kalos Pokémon. This means it’s only a matter of time before Sylveon, the fairy Pokémon Eeveelution, debuts for the mobile game.

Each Eeveelution has a unique method for evolving in Pokémon GO, not too unlike the anime and core video games. In Pokémon GO, however, players must obtain 25 Eevee candy in order to get an Eeveelution. Eevee candy is accumulated by catching or hatching multiple Eevees, or by giving Rare Candy to an Eevee a trainer already has. Once a player has enough Eevee candy, there are still other factors involved for getting a specific Eeveelution.

Each trainer has a one-time opportunity to use the Eevee name trick to guarantee a certain outcome. It’s recommended that trainers use this trick on Eevees with high IVs and CPs – or even Shiny Eevees in Pokémon GO if players have them – to get the best result. Trainers can see the icon left of the “Evolve” button when viewing a specific Eevee to make sure it will evolve into the intended Eeveelution. Each Eeveelution includes a Pokémon GO Pokédex description and methods for evolving below.

Pokémon GO: Generation 1 Kanto Eeveelutions

Pokémon GO: Every Eevee Evolution Explained

Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon evolve randomly as denoted by the question mark symbol on the left of the “Evolve” button when looking at a specific Eevee. Players may need to evolve multiple Eevees to get each form, but those using the name trick have one opportunity to ensure a desired outcome.

  • Vaporeon This water Pokémon has the ability to freely control water. Known as the “Bubble Jet Pokémon,” Vaporeon underwent a spontaneous mutation and grew fins and gills that allow it to live underwater. Trainers can rename Eevee “Rainer” to guarantee a Vaporeon.
  • Jolteon Known as the “Lightning Pokémon,” Jolteon is an electric type. Its cells generate a low level of electricity that is amplified by the static electricity of its fur, which is made of electrically charged needles. This trait allows it to drop thunderbolts. Trainers can rename Eevee “Sparky” to guarantee a Jolteon.
  • Flareon The “Flame Pokémon” is a Fire-type with fluffy fur that releases heat into the air to keep its body from getting too hot. It’s body temperature can rise to a maximum of 1,650 degrees Fahrenheit. Trainers can rename Eevee “Pyro” to guarantee a Flareon.

Pokémon GO: Generation 2 Johto Eeveelutions

Pokemon GO Eeveelutions Espeon Umbreon

To get Espeon and Umbreon in Pokémon GO, players must first walk with an Eevee as a buddy for 10km. Evolving the walked Eevee during the day transforms it into Espeon and evolving during the night transforms it into Umbreon. Like the others, trainers can use the name trick once to get these Eeveelutions as well.

  • Espeon The “Sun Pokémon” is a Psychic-type and loyal companion to any trainer it deems worthy. It’s said that Espeon developed its precognitive powers to protect its trainer from harm. Trainers can rename Eevee “Sakura” to guarantee an Espeon.
  • Umbreon The Dark-type “Moonlight Pokémon” is evolved from an Eevee’s exposure to moon waves. Umbreon hides in the darkness, waiting for its foes to make a move. Its yellow rings glow when it leaps to attack. Trainers can rename Eevee “Tamao to guarantee an Umbreon.

Pokémon GO: Generation 4 Sinnoh Eeveelutions

Pokemon GO Eeveelutions Leafeon Glaceon

Eeveelutions skip the third Pokémon Generation, but Generation 4 features Leafeon and Glaceon along with a new method for evolving Eevee. Trainers will need to attach a Mossy Lure and a Glacial Lure at a Pokéstop to evolve Leafeon and Glaceon respectively. Again, players can view the icon next to the “Evolve” button to ensure Eevee will evolve accordingly.

  • Leafeon The “Verdant Pokémon” gets its nutrition from photosynthesis. This Grass-type lives in deep forests with clean rivers. Trainers can rename Eevee “Linnea” one time to guarantee a Leafeon.
  • Glaceon The Ice-type “Fresh Snow Pokémon” can instantaneously freeze any moisture around it, creating ice pellets it can shoot at its enemies. Trainers can rename Eevee “Rea” one time to guarantee a Glaceon.
