Pokémon GO Android Players Get Free Items & YouTube Premium

Google Play has been named the official sponsor of Pokémon GO Fest 2021, with special perks and exclusive rewards being for eligible players, including three free months of YouTube Premium. These trainers, as the partnership suggests, are those using Android devices. No word has been made about any offers for iOS users.

The summertime Pokémon GO Fest has been an annual event for the game since 2017. While the first event did not have the most positive reception, 2018’s in-person event was much better received. 2019 saw the event spread beyond its hometown of Chicago, with celebrations held in Dortmund, Germany, and Yokohama, Japan. 2021 is following in the same footsteps as 2020: an entirely virtual event that will occur across the globe, this time with a musical theme to match that of the 25th anniversary of Pokémon.

According to the official Pokémon GO blog, this year’s Pokémon GO Fest is being sponsored by Google Play and has some unique gifts and perks for Android users. Beginning on July 12, Google Play subscribers will earn additional Google Play points on purchases made in Pokémon GO. Additionally, eligible players can register for three free months of YouTube Premium. The game also teamed up with popular YouTube channel The Try Guys with a video on how to prepare for the upcoming event.

In addition to the above perks, a special sponsored gift will be made available to Android users during Pokémon GO Fest itself. The bundle will include 30 Ultra Balls, a Super Incubator, and an Incense. The gift will only be available on the first day of the event, however. Some of the build-up perks have limitations attached as well. For example, only new YouTube Premium users will be eligible for the offer; returning customers won’t be able to redeem it.

It’s unlikely there will be any special incentives for Apple device players, due to Google’s exclusive sponsorship. Google and Apple are to the mobile industry as Red and Blue are to Pokémon – bitter rivals. It’s not impossible a special reward for iOS trainers will be announced before Pokémon GO Fest, but the odds seem very slim.

Still, the rewards on offer are fairly substantial. Android players are sure to appreciate the additional items and the chance to try out YouTube Premium. Having The Try Guys also promote the event may also attract new players to experience the event. Pokémon GO Fest 2021 is shaping up to be a grand experience. It might be a somewhat more enriching event for Android players, but regardless of hardware, everyone should be having fun.
