Pokémon Fan’s 3D Delibird Shadowbox Card Revitalizes Its Original Form

A Pokémon fan has created a stunning 3D Delibird shadowbox card that revitalizes its original form. The Pokémon Trading Card Game has been around for almost as long as the video game series. Fans new and old collect these highly-valued cards, and it can be quite devastating if an expensive Pokémon TCG card ends up in the laundry. Now, a seasonally appropriate Pokémon trading card has been commemorated in a fan-made 3D form.

Delibird is a penguin-like dual Ice- and Flying-type Pokémon. This Generation II Pokémon is plump, has a red and white color scheme, and carries a large white sack full of food and presents. Stats-wise, Delibird is actually a very weak Pokémon. Its speed and defense stats are abysmal, leaving it especially vulnerable to offensive Pokémon. Furthermore, its dual typing makes it doubly weak when up against Rock-type Pokémon. Delibird doesn’t evolve and the only move it can learn (called Present) can randomly restore the HP of its opponents, making the Pokémon potentially detrimental to have on one’s own team. Its physical appearance along with its signature move Present makes it remarkably similar to Santa Claus. This could be the reasoning behind Delibird often being featured in Pokémon Go‘s holiday events.

On the Pokémon subreddit, user IllustriousParsley2 posted a video showcasing their 3D Delibird shadowbox card. IllustriousParsley2’s fan art is a 3D recreation of a specific Delibird Pokémon trading card called “Icy Snow,” which shows a Delibird carrying several wrapped presents as a fire burns in the fireplace behind it. The shadowbox card is the same size as an actual Pokémon trading card and looks extremely professional. In the comments, IllustriousParsley2 mentions that they do 3D shadowbox cards as commissions. On their profile, fans can see more 3D shadowbox cards, including ones from other franchises like the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game.

Delibird’s cute design first appeared in Pokémon Gold and Silver over twenty years ago. The Pokédex entries for Delibird describe its tendency to share the presents and food in its sack with travelers lost in the mountains. In fact, it has saved many lives thanks to its generosity and compassion. With this in mind and the fact that it is the Christmas season, it’s not surprising that IllustriousParsley2 would choose to make their fan art based on a Delibird card, even when the Pokémon Trading Card Game has literally thousands of other cards to choose from.

Though Delibird is weak, its adorable design and endearing lore make it popular among Pokémon fans. Thankfully, fans can be like Delibird and commission IllustriousParsley2 to make them a 3D shadowbox card as a gift for a friend during the holiday season. And even when winter passes, fans can still enjoy this remarkably creative shadowbox art of Pokémon‘s own Delibird.
