PlayStation State Of Play With Surprise Reveal Rumored For August 19

According to the latest rumors, PlayStation plans to host a new State of Play on August 19, which will supposedly feature fresh details concerning known titles and a “surprise announcement” of some sort. The last State of Play broadcast aired last month on July 8, featuring closer looks at third-party titles.

As a result, first-party projects such as the next God of War and Horizon: Forbidden West didn’t take center stage. The likes of Arkane’s Deathloop, a timed PlayStation 5 exclusive, instead received the spotlight. It’s no wonder PlayStation fans are eager for another news blowout from the Japanese manufacturer, particularly one that emphasizes endeavors from internal studios. In addition to the two aforementioned titles from Santa Monica Studio and Guerrilla Games, Gran Turismo counts as the only other major Sony-owned IP that’s confirmed to receive a new release in the next year and change. And, as of writing, none of these three adventures boast firm release dates. That could change in the coming weeks, however, if recent rumors prove accurate.

Yesterday, August 9, Future Games Show Producer James Jarvis shared a rumor claiming Sony will host the next State of Play on August 19. If so, the publisher will reportedly announce the news sometime today, August 10, and confirm plans to share updates regarding Gran Turismo 7. This supposed broadcast should also boast an extended look at Kena: Bridge of Spirits, as well as confirmation about Horizon: Forbidden West’s alleged delay to 2022. Moreover, Jarvis’ post speculates fans will want to tune in to the next State of Play to learn of a “surprise announcement.”

Apart from James Jarvis’ above tweets, this rumor does not seem to have any other sources. As usual, then, the above claims should not be taken at face value for the time being, especially since Sony itself has yet to unveil this supposed State of Play broadcast.

As Jarvis notes in his second post, there does exist at least one bit of news PlayStation fans can definitely look forward to today – the Abandoned teaser. The game’s PS5 app should receive an update later today, offering concrete details about the still-mysterious horror project from developer Blue Box Game Studios. Whatever the news entails, hopefully it will finally put an end to the ongoing chaos surrounding what’s supposedly a humble indie endeavor.
