PlayStation Announces Second Dreams-Exclusive DreamsCom Event

DreamsCom, a community convention that takes place entirely within Media Molecule’s game creation system Dreams, will return in 2021, according to PlayStation. The popular game creation platform Dreams, which allows users to design their own video games, was released in February 2020. The game has proven to be a popular PlayStation-exclusive title, adding to Sony’s growing list of exclusives.

Dreams is a well-loved creation system among casual gamers, aspiring creators and professionals game developers. Media Molecule has emphasized accessibility with the title, ensuring that anyone can pick up Dreams and bring their ideas to life. One dedicated creator recently used Dreams to recreate Castle Dimitrescu, an iconic location from the recently-released horror title Resident Evil Village. The gothic location was made by Martin Nebelong, an artist for Media Molecule, using the PlayStation 5 version of the game. Another skilled Dreams user, username Sharfik1995, used the platform to make a game based on the upcoming Insomniac title Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The platforming shooter, appropriately titled Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, stars the character Rivet, who will play an integral role in the upcoming release.

Sony has announced, via the PlayStation Blog, that the Dreams in-game community showcase DreamsCom will return in 2021. DreamsCom 2021, which is used to show off exceptional creations from Dreams users, will mark the second annual version of the event. The showcase will take place over several days, with a livestream kicking off the festivities on July 27. The digital show floor, made entirely in Dreams, will then open on July 28 and remain open until August 2. Daily livestreams will highlight certain booths, which can be created within the platform and submitted for approval at any point before June 18.

Dreams is an exceptionally powerful platform for any gamer who dreams of developing their very own video game. The game provides players with the tools to bring their ideas to life, and is accessible enough for almost anyone to utilize. While some Dreams creation are just casual games to help pass the time, other users are able to create truly extraordinary works of art in the game. The senior principle designer of the game was even able to make a super detailed and almost photorealistic carpet using the game’s fairly basic toolset.

DreamsCom is an excellent way for Media Molecule to highlight some of the most impressive creations from their player base. There are a wide range of users within the platform, which naturally leads to a wide range of creations to analyze. During DreamsCom 2021, fellow players and curious bystanders alike will be able to see the greatest creations that the Dreams community has to offer.

Dreams is available on PS4 and PS5.
