Pixar Popcorn: 10 Characters That Deserve A Spot In The Upcoming Mini-Series

Pixar Popcorn: 10 Characters That Deserve A Spot In The Upcoming Mini-Series

The latest Disney Investor call revealed a lot about the future of the Disney+ streaming service. Fans were thrilled to learn that Pixar would be embarking on some brand new projects, unlike anything they have ever done before. Alongside a couple of original series, the brand will be bringing back old favorites in episodes known as Pixar Popcorn.

These short films will serve as a way to tell new stories with previous characters. But with so many characters to choose from, it may be time to focus on those who haven’t gotten the credit they deserve. While fan favorites like Ducky and Bunny are set to return, the Pixar universe has a much deeper roster to explore.

Syndrome

Pixar Popcorn: 10 Characters That Deserve A Spot In The Upcoming Mini-Series

There are plenty of superhero tropes built into The Incredibles, but the point of Syndrome is that he completely breaks the mold and forces the heroes to question their methods of fighting crime. In an age where everyone is super, no one is.

That quote sums up Syndrome’s main goal, and while he was killed off in the first movie, it would be great to have a short film about how he gained all his technology and went on his superhero hunting mission. A little prequel for one of the best on-screen super villains.

Roz

Mike and Roz

Roz is probably responsible for some of the funniest moments in Monsters Inc. The character is the center of quite the twist in the movie, when it’s revealed that she is actually the leader of the top-secret government organization, tasked with protecting the monsters from the humans.

It would be fascinating to see Roz go on a few more adventures as the leader of the CDA (Child Detection Agency) either in this new world of comedy, or back in the day during the height of her career.

Princess Atta

Princess Atta From A Bug's Life

A Bugs Life was one of the first 10 films that Pixar ever created! It has an important place in the company’s history, but is rarely revisited for unknown reasons. It has become known as quite the classic, but there’s still story beats to explore.

During the movie, Princess Atta was worried about becoming the future Queen. A Pixar Popcorn could pick up from the film years on, with Atta now in the Queen role and how she is dealing with the responsibilities place on her.

Gill

Gill swims in the fish tank in Finding Nemo

Gill started off as a feared character, but by the end of Finding Nemo he was perhaps one of the most likable fish of the film. His never-give-up attitude does eventually save the other fish from the dentist’s fish tank.

After their big escape, the group is only briefly seen out in the ocean. It would be fun to catch up with the crew and find out exactly what happened to them. Gill as the fearless leader would have certainly come up with a new and brilliant plan.

The Death Department

police coco pixar

The Land of the Dead has a whole society built around that one day that the deceased can return back to Earth. In Coco, there’s a small amount of time spent in the Death Department, after Miguel gets trapped in this mysterious world.

It goes without saying that a small show demonstrating all the odd problems the Death Department have to deal with, would be incredibly entertaining. The crew that work there were pretty funny and could certainly be fleshed out further.

Riley

Riley Inside Out

Riley has grown up on screen essentially and while a small short depicted her life after the events of Inside Out, there’s just so much more left to explore as she continues to try to navigate adulthood. A college-age Riley could be intriguing to watch.

Her High School days have slowly gotten better but the next big era of change is leaving home and moving off to a new education system and maybe even a new state. This is an area where the voices inside Riley’s head might not know what to do!

Remy

Ratatouille Remy

Remy may have gotten a little carried away with his love for food but the result was a thriving Restaurant which was last seen at the height of its success. But it would be interesting to see what happens to Remy when he hits his own creative roadblock.

It happens to absolutely every great chef and there’s a story to tell there about perseverance and coming back on top. Remy is a really unique character in the Pixar catalog and hasn’t been used to his full potential.

Cruz Ramirez

Cruz and Lightning McQueen racing on the beach in Cars 3

Cars 3 introduced the world to a brand new star, with Cruz Ramirez taking over from Lightning McQueen as the new Piston Cup winner. She’s agile, determined, and has overcome a lot to secure her top position.

There’s so much more to be said about Cruz though. While it’s possible a new series set in this world might explore her further, if it does not then it would be a lot of fun to see Cruz return, facing a new challenge of her own.

Queen Elinor

Queen Elinor From Brave

Queen Elinor is the focus of the initial Pixar picture, thanks to the fact she actually transforms into a bear. While her daughter might be the protagonist, there’s so much more to be said about her mother.

With the Queen perhaps taking a more prominent role in the Kingdom, it might be intriguing to see how someone so experienced navigates her social and gender-based position in the court, as she continues to try and teach her daughter the ways of being a leader.

Frozone

Frozone protects Dash and Violet in Incredibles 2

It may be the most popular quote of the movie, but Frozone is so much more than just his super suit. The character is a long-term friend and ally to the Incredibles and has made his own comeback into the superhero world.

Effortlessly cool, Frozone has his own personal dramas and supervillains to fight. It’s doubtful that any fan would be complaining that Frozone was given his own short story to develop the hero even further.
