Phyrexia: All Will Be One Preview – Oxidda Finisher & Sawblade Scamp [EXCLUSIVE]

Phyrexia: All Will Be One Preview – Oxidda Finisher & Sawblade Scamp [EXCLUSIVE]

Magic: The Gathering is in the midst of its most impactful narrative ever told, a story that spans across its Multiverse and has seen the devastation of some of its most iconic characters. Phyrexia: All Will Be One is a special story, one that directly leads into something that Wizards of the Coast has promised will change the game forever – and it only makes sense that the cards in the set are equally exciting, ranging from compleated planeswalkers to eldritch horrors.

The importance of Phyrexia: All Will Be One extends to its art, which features collaborations with massively popular horror manga artists like Junji Ito, and its card finishes. The latter, which includes the horror manga art treatment, also features raised foiling mimicking New Phyrexia’s oil-slicked plane, alongside What If? treatments of all ten planeswalkers in the set, imagining what would happen to all of them following their compleation.

Of course, for players, the most exciting part of any set release is the actual cards themselves. Screen Rant’s exclusive Magic: The Gathering preview for Phyrexia: All Will Be One isn’t just one card – it’s two, and it shows dual sides of the conflict on New Phyrexia, both in the color red. Here’s a look at Oxidda Finisher and Sawblade Scamp:

Sawblade Scamp

While neither of these cards stand out as potential constructed all-stars, they’re exciting looks at what Red will look like in Phyrexia: All Will Be One limited. Sawblade Scamp is a build-around common that could potentially run away with games in multiple copies. Oxidda Finisher will need some work to really reduce its cost – Affinity for Equipment is pretty specific – but in the right deck, even a few mana cost reduction could make this an extremely threatening low-cost threat with Trample.

Screen Rant’s Phyrexia: All Will Be One preview is also an interesting look into the side stories of MTG lore for the set. Oxidda Finisher is part of the Mirran resistance, an Ogre Rebel that seeks to overwhelm the despair-inducing forces of New Phyrexia. Sawblade Scamp is interesting insight into the Red Praetor, Urabrask, and just what his Great Work entails: it seems like a naturally annoying part of an army, one that might even undermine its own side given the uncontrollable nature hinted at in its flavor text.

As it stands, Phyrexia: All Will Be One could be one of the most impactful Magic: The Gathering sets ever created based on its ongoing story alone. The fact it features some mind-boggling cards – compleated planeswalkers chief among them – is added incentive to pick up and play the set when it releases on February 10, 2023.

Phyrexia: All Will Be One releases globally on February 10, 2023.
