Pet Sematary Bloodlines 2: Confirmation Chances, Franchise Future Release Plans & Everything We Know

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines 2 would continue the story of Lindsey Anderson Beer’s Stephen King prequel. The first movie in the Pet Sematary franchise from the writer-director, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines focused on the character of Jud Crandall prior to the events of the Pet Sematary movies (specifically the 2019 remake directed by Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer). Set in 1969, the first movie showed how Jud — played now by Jackson White (Mrs. Fletcher) — first learned of Ludlow’s history and why burying the dead there is always a risky gamble.

The first movie significantly fleshed out the history of Ludlow, and Pet Sematary: Bloodlines 2 would continue to do the same according to comments from Lindsey Anderson Beer. While the movie hasn’t been greenlit, yet there’s still plenty of potential surrounding it. Pet Sematary is one of Stephen King’s self-professed most terrifying stories, and the rich lore behind why the animal burial grounds in the town of Ludlow causes the dead to rise still warrants more exploration.

The latest news for Pet Sematary: Bloodlines 2 arrived a week before the first movie’s October 2023 release date. Speaking to GamesRader on September 30, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines writer-director Lindsey Anderson Beer discussed her interest in making more movies based on Stephen King’s Pet Sematary novel, and what sequels like Pet Sematary: Bloodlines 2 could entail. “You could do so many movies within the Pet Sematary universe that peel back the onion more and show more and more of what this evil really is, and really comes from,” Beer explained, “but I certainly have lots of versions of a very extensive origin story in my head.”

However, whether the director’s ideas find their way to the screen in Pet Sematary: Bloodlines 2 likely depends on the success of the first Pet Sematary prequel. Early reviews of the Stephen King horror spinoff weren’t exactly positive, so unless the movie defies critical reception and becomes a streaming hit on Paramount+ it’s unlikely that studio Paramount would option another movie — especially since, as a prequel, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines already has a sequel in the form of the 2019 Pet Sematary.

Pet Sematary Bloodlines 2 Isn’t Confirmed

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines 2 isn’t confirmed yet. Unless the first movie in Lindsey Anderson Beer’s proposed Stephen King prequel franchise performs well on Parmount+ it’s unlikely the sequel will get a greenlight, too.

Pet Sematary Bloodlines 2 Release Date Prediction

There is currently no release date for Pet Sematary: Bloodlines 2. Should the movie be confirmed it will likely take one to two years to develop and produce. A 2025 release date for the next Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is possible but incredibly unlikely, with a 2026 or 2027 release more plausible should it be greenlit.

Pet Sematary Bloodlines 2 Cast

Until the movie is greenlit it’s difficult to predict the cast of Pet Sematary: Bloodlines 2. This is because there’s no guarantee that write-director Lindsey Anderson Beer would continue on the story directly from her first Stephen King prequel, or explore a different point in the history of Ludlow, focusing on a different character than Jud Crandall (Jackson White).

Should Lindsey Anderson Beer fill the cast of Pet Sematary: Bloodlines 2 with returning cast members, some names on the list could include:

  • Jackson White as Jud Crandall
  • Forrest Goodluck as Manny
  • Natalie Alyn Lind as Norma
  • Isabella Star LeBlanc as Donna
  • Samantha Mathis as Kathy
  • Pam Grier as Majorie
  • Henry Thomas as Dan

If Lindsey Anderson Beer chooses to focus on a different set of characters for Pet Sematary: Bloodlines 2, further fleshing out the world of Stephen King’s story but in an additional direction, the cast would be filled with new names. However, it’s also likely that some of the above would cameo (or possibly feature too) to connect the sequel with the rest of the franchise.

Pet Sematary Bloodlines 2 Story

There’s no word yet from Lindsey Anderson Beer on what the plot of Pet Sematary: Bloodlines 2 would be. While the Bloodlines extension of Pet Sematary is a prequel to Stephen Kings 1983 novel, King himself didn’t write the prequel narrative. Lindsey Anderson Beer’s movie was an original story rather than an adaptation of King’s work, which means the plot of Pet Sematary: Bloodlines 2 could go anywhere.

The first movie ended rather definitively, at least in terms of how it set up Jud’s character prior to Pet Sematary, with knowledge of the secrets of Ludlow’s titular burial ground. There wasn’t an obvious cliffhanger ending that set up a sequel. However, as Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is an official prequel to the 2019 version of Pet Sematary, there is room for more to his story.

The Jud Crandall of 2019’s Pet Sematary, played by John Lithgow, was a mild-mannered and kind-hearted yet troubled individual. While the events of Pet Sematary: Bloodlines were certainly hard for him, his personality when played by Jackson White is still much more confident and outgoing. There’s definitely scope for more tragedy in his future before the events of Pet Sematary, and Pet Sematary: Bloodlines 2 could serve to further explain how he became the almost timid man who tried to warn Louis Creed about the dangers of burying the dead in Ludlow.
