Percy Jackson’s Tyson Update Makes Us Even More Excited For Season 2

Percy Jackson’s Tyson Update Makes Us Even More Excited For Season 2

Percy Jackson & the Olympians has officially been renewed for season 2, and the Disney+ show’s recent Tyson update makes its return that much more exciting. With season 1 adapting the events of Rick Riordan’s first Percy Jackson book, the second outing will presumably cover the second: The Sea of Monsters. This means introducing a number of new characters to Percy Jackson‘s television universe, as well as expanding the world laid out in season 1.

One of the most important characters to expect in Percy Jackson season 2 is Tyson. Tyson is Percy’s half-brother, who also happens to be a young Cyclops. He plays a significant role in Percy’s journey throughout the books, and Percy Jackson & the Olympians’ character update makes his entrance even more exciting.

Percy Jackson Season 2’s Take On Tyson Promises More Depth For The Character

Percy Jackson’s Tyson Update Makes Us Even More Excited For Season 2

Speaking to Screen Rant about Percy Jackson season 2, executive producer Jon Steinberg shared his thoughts about Tyson’s character and his role in the story. Steinberg more or less confirmed Tyson’s inclusion in season 2, but he also spoke about what an important character he is. The EP’s thoughts on how Tyson’s arrival impacts Percy and his relationships indicate that the character will receive an adequate amount of attention in the show. It also suggests he could receive more depth as a character, expanding on the Cyclops readers know from Riordan’s books.

If the show gives Tyson an even greater presence than the books, it could elaborate on his relationship with both Percy and Poseidon. Given what a lovable character he is, it would also give viewers even more chances to enjoy his time on-screen. And offering more of Tyson’s perspective would also continue a trend that’s becoming the Disney+ series’ greatest strength.

Perc y Jackson’s Tyson Update Continues The Disney+ Show’s Greatest Strength

Giving Tyson more depth in season 2 continues Percy Jackson & the Olympians’ best trend: improving on book characters by fleshing them out further. Tyson wouldn’t be the first person from Riordan’s books to get this treatment. Over the course of season 1, Sally Jackson, Luke Castellan, the Olympian gods, and even Medusa were given more attention than their novel counterparts. This allowed viewers to step into these characters’ shoes and understand them in a way the source material didn’t necessarily facilitate.

If Tyson gets greater characterization in the show, Percy Jackson & the Olympians will continue capitalizing on this strength. The Cyclops isn’t the only season 2 addition who could benefit from this approach, either. Everyone from Blackjack to Polyphemus could become more interesting, assuming Percy Jackson & the Olympians takes the time to dig into each of them.
