Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Hades actor, Jay Duplass, previously worked with another major Greek god star from the show, creating a subtle reunion for a 2023 military drama movie. Percy Jackson season 1’s cast includes major guest stars for some of its most important roles, with the show recruiting several Hollywood veterans for its Greek gods and mythological creatures. While most only appear on-screen very briefly, the Disney+ series has made the most of its Greek god cast with the likes of Jason Mantzoukas, Toby Stephens, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Timothy Omundson, and Jay Duplass as some of the major deities.
Black Sails’ Jessica Parker Kennedy and Toby Stephens, who play Medusa and Poseidon, respectively, aren’t the only former co-stars who have reunited on Percy Jackson’s TV show. The introduction of Hades, the ruler of the Underworld and the brother of Zeus and Poseidon, in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 7 is a reminder of two other cast members who previously starred together in a hit project. The same year that Percy Jackson’s series premiere was released, Hades’ Jay Duplass performed alongside another Greek god actor in a critically acclaimed war-centered legal drama, making for a speedy reunion.
Hades’ Jay Duplass & Zeus’ Lance Reddick Starred In 2023’s Caine Mutiny Court-Martial Movie
Jay Duplass and the late Lance Reddick, who sadly passed away in March 2023, both appeared in the 2023 movie The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial. Based on the same-named play, which itself was inspired by The Caine Mutiny novel, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial was the final movie of legendary director William Friedkin, who passed away in August 2023. The movie surrounds the trial of a US Naval captain who is court-martialed when he begins to show signs of mental instability that threaten his ship’s safety, with Reddick starring as head judge Captain Blakely and Duplass playing witness Lieutenant Alan Bird.
Following their movie released in October 2023, Jay Duplass and Lance Reddick reunited for Percy Jackson season 1, in which they play Hades and Zeus, respectively. From fellow members of the military to powerful Greek god brothers, Duplass and Reddick’s two collaborations have yielded highly memorable performances and critically acclaimed outings. While Percy Jackson season 1 holds a 96% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial holds a similarly impressive 94% critics score. Sadly, however, Reddick’s passing marks Percy Jackson as their final project together.

Sadly, Percy Jackson Season 1 Likely Won’t See Duplass & Reddick Reunite On-Screen
Duplass made his debut as Hades in Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 7, but Reddick has yet to appear on-screen as Zeus in the show so far. With one episode left in Percy Jackson season 1, this means Reddick’s long-anticipated performance as Zeus will finally be seen in the finale. However, it’s unlikely that Reddick and Duplass will be seen together on-screen in Percy Jackson season 1, episode 8, as Zeus rules from Olympus while Hades rules from the Underworld.
While Disney+ has yet to officially renew Percy Jackson season 2, the show’s critical acclaim makes another outing likely. This does, however, present an issue with the character of Zeus, who would have to be recast for future seasons. While Duplass would likely reprise his role, it’s disappointing that there won’t be a scene between him and Reddick playing two of the Big Three. Seeing Reddick as Zeus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 8 will also be a sad reminder of the loss of such an incredible actor, with the series being among his last remaining posthumous releases.
