Critics have weighed in with their thoughts on Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The upcoming Disney+ show is an adaptation of the Rick Riordan children’s novel series of the same name, following a young man named Percy (Walker Scobell) who discovers that he is the son of Poseidon. In season 1, which adapts the book The Lightning Thief, Percy must team up with his satyr protector Grover (Aryan Simhadri) and Athena’s daughter Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) to go on an adventure to discover the identity of the thief of Zeus’ Master Bolt.

The first official reviews have now arrived for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1. So far, the overall tenor of the reviews has been positive, with many unavoidably mentioning how the show feels much more true to Riordan’s vision in the books than the two Percy Jackson movies that debuted in the early 2010s. In fact, Collider‘s Chase Hutchinson says it “finally feels like this story is being done right” while The A.V. Club‘s Kayleigh Dray compliments the fact that the story has “more than enough room to breathe and obsess over the books’ lore when it needs to.”
