Percy Jackson Show Images Reveal Best Look Yet At Major Book Antagonist

New images from Percy Jackson and the Olympians offer a closer look at a majorly important character. The upcoming Disney+ show is based on the fantasy novel series of the same name by Rick Riordan. It will follow the 12-year-old Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) as he discovers that he is the son of the Greek god Poseidon and is whisked off to train with other demigods at Camp Half-Blood before embarking on an adventure with his friends Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri).

On Twitter, the user E shared photographs of eight stills from Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 that are part of an insert in a new tie-in edition of the original book. Check out the post below:

The images showcase various early moments from Percy’s school days and his training at Camp Half-Blood. Most importantly, they offer the closest look yet at the character of camp counselor Luke Castellan (Charlie Bushnell), who will eventually come to the fore as an important villain.

Luke Castellan’s Importance In Percy Jackson Explained

While Luke is initially introduced as a possible ally as part of the structure of Camp Half-Blood, his true intentions are eventually revealed by the end of the first book The Lightning Thief. Because season 1 will be adapting that book, this means that Luke will most likely show his true colors by the time the season finale airs. It will be important for the show to get this reveal right, because Luke is one of the most important Percy Jackson characters.

If the show hews closely to the source novel, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover will encounter many antagonists over the course of their adventure in season 1. This includes various mythological figures, beasts, Medusa herself, and 11 Greek gods. However, Luke’s villain role is one of the most important for several reasons, including the fact that he is a recurring antagonist throughout the entire book series.

The most important thing about Luke’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians role is his eventual betrayal. His villainous actions show Percy that not everyone in the new world he has found himself inhabiting can be trusted. Luke also acts as a foil to Percy, showcasing the self-serving ways that a young demigod might choose to harness their powers, making Percy’s choice to use his powers for good even more profound.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians premieres on Disney+ on December 20.
