Percy Jackson Season 2 To Feature More Olympians In Latest Update

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 will feature even more Olympians, a new update reveals. Based on the best-selling books by author Rick Riordan, the new Disney Plus adaptation follows a young Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) as he attempts to prevent a war among the Olympian gods. The Percy Jackson and the Olympians reviews were glowing and the show was a viewership hit for Disney, leading to the confirmation that season 2 is officially on the way.

Now, co-creator and showrunner Jonathan E. Steinberg reveals at Disney’s recent TCA panel, at which Screen Rant was in attendance, that Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 will be upping the ante in terms of its Olympian count. Few details have been revealed about the show’s sophomore outing, but the showrunner’s comment seemingly affirms more deep dives into Riordan’s source material. Check out Steinberg’s full comment below:

“We are definitely going to see more Olympians [in season 2.] A big part of the show is really exploring that family.”

What Is The Sea Of Monsters About?

Percy Jackson Season 2 To Feature More Olympians In Latest Update

In contrast to the two poorly-received Percy Jackson movies, the first season of the Disney Plus adaptation was remarkably faithful to Riordan’s source material. A large reason for this is undoubtedly due to Riordan himself serving as a key creative voice on the show as co-creator. With the author presumably sticking around to shepherd Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, it’s likely that the follow-up season will once again be sticking close to his source material.

With season 1 having adapted the events of Riordan’s The Lightning Thief, season 2 will continue Percy’s story by adapting The Sea of Monsters. The book follows Percy and his friends Annabeth (Leah Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) as they attempt to save Camp Half-Blood from an attack by using the Golden Fleece to cure Thalia’s sick pine tree. While the Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast was already large in season 1, The Sea of Monsters introduces a number of new characters, including Percy’s cyclops half-brother, Polyphemus, who could make their debut in the show.

Riordan has previously expressed hope for the series to continue beyond season 2, meaning the upcoming batch of episodes could open the door for further adventures, much in the same way the season 1 finale did. In terms of episode count, season 1 was eight episodes in total, and season 2 will likely follow this trend. With the season 2 announcement having only just come in recently, it will likely be some time before Percy Jackson and the Olympians enters production and longer still before it returns to screens.
