Parks & Rec: Every Job April Had Across All 7 Seasons

The main characters in Parks & Recreation went through a whole journey in their personal and professional lives, and by the end of the series, they had found their ideal jobs, but to get there, they had to go through many others – and here’s every job April Ludgate had in Parks & Recreation. The 2000s/2010s saw a variety of sitcoms that with time have become fan favorites, and among the best TV shows of the decade is Parks & Recreation, created by Greg Daniels and Michael Schur. Although originally planned as a spinoff of The Office, Parks & Recreation became its own world, and while it had a rough start, it ended up winning over the hearts of the audience.

Parks & Recreation took the audience to the fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana, to meet the Parks Department crew, led by eternal optimist Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler). Over the course of seven seasons, Leslie shared the spotlight with her closest friends and coworkers, and many of them ended up stealing the show many, many times. Among the most popular characters from Parks & Recreation was April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza), who was introduced in season 1 and made it to season 7, where she finally found a job she was truly happy with and built a family with her husband, Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt), but she went through a lot in her professional life before that.

April Ludgate had a very obscure sense of humor and was weirdly inexpressive, which only added to her popularity among viewers along with Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman), who had a similar comedic style. When viewers met April in Parks & Recreation season 1, April was a college student and intern at the Pawnee Department of Parks and Recreation, where she was constantly annoyed by her coworkers and always picked on Jerry (Jim O’Heir). In an effort to be closer to Andy (before they started dating), April took on the job of assistant to the director of the Parks Department, who was none other than Ron, and they turned out to be a great team, and later in season 3, she became Chris Traeger’s (Rob Lowe) temporary assistant.

Parks & Recreation season 4 saw April becoming a member of Leslie’s City Council campaign, and in order to help Leslie, she took over many of her duties in the Parks Department. The following season, April became Ben Wyatt’s (Adam Scott) assistant during a congressional campaign and moved to Washington D.C. with him, while Andy tried to get into the Pawnee Police Department. Season 5 saw April questioning her future and what she truly wanted to do, and she became Deputy Director of Animal Control in the Parks Department before considering attending veterinary school. However, in season 6, April realized she didn’t want to go back to school, and instead she took on the role of Andy’s manager as he started playing music for children. Parks & Recreation season 7 made a time jump, and April was now Executive Director of Regional Affairs at National Park Service Midwest Region, but she was going through a crisis again as she felt her life hadn’t been fulfilled yet, and decided to leave the National Parks Department.

Leslie helped April find her perfect job, and she decided to work at the American Service Foundation. By the end of Parks & Recreation, April was still working at the Foundation, proving she truly found her ideal job. April Ludgate is one of the most relatable characters in Parks & Recreation as she portrayed the struggles that every young person goes through when finding their passion and place in the world, and with the help and support of her loved ones, April eventually found the perfect place for her.
