The trailer teases a tone similar to Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, with Blunt and Evans’ characters working together to make money under the table. Everything We Know About Pain Hustlers

Pain Hustlers is based on a book of the same name by Evan Hughes which details the real-world case of pharmacuetical company Insys and their shady business practices. In particular, Hughes revealed how the company took advantage of the opiod crisis, selling drugs with fentanyl in them as pain medication. The company also participated in other shady behavior in order to sell their drugs to as many people as they could.

The new film is one of many projects Netflix has recently released that has ties to the opiod crisis. Their most recent endeavor was the miniseries Painkiller, which focuses on Purdue Pharma’s role in manufacturing OxyContin during the early days of the crisis. Much like that series, Pain Hustlers will likely showcase the inner workings of a company that tries to take advantage of a drug crisis.

Since details about the movie’s plot remain sparse, it’s unclear how true to the real story of Insys it will be. However, with Blunt and Evans leading the film, it will no doubt be an entertaining and informative watch for those unfamiliar with the true story. Just how true to life or dramatized Pain Hustlers is will be revealed in late October when the film arrives on Netflix.
