“Over 300 Speaking Parts”: Masters Of The Air EP Teases Massive Scale Of New War Epic From Band Of Brothers Producers

Masters of the Air executive producer Gary Goetzman teases the massive scale of the new war epic, including its all-star ensemble. From Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, the producers of Band of Brothers and The Pacific, the upcoming war drama follows the heroic actions of the eleven men who comprised the 100th Bomb Group of the United States Air Force during World War II. The star-studded Masters of the Air cast includes Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Barry Keoghan, Ncuti Gatwa, Anthony Boyle, Raff Law, and many more.

In a new interview with Total Film (via GamesRadar+) ahead of the Masters of the Air release date, Goetzman teased the massive scale of the new war epic, including its star-studded ensemble, which includes “over 300 speaking parts” and even Doctor Who. Read his full comments below:

There’s over 300 speaking parts here. [Casting director] Lucy Bevan and her team just did a brilliant job. Who knew we were going to have Doctor Who? I called Tom Hanks, and said, “What do you think of this actor, Austin Butler?” He was like, “Dude, I think he’s great.” We lucked out – it’s just a great bunch of guys. I couldn’t be prouder of them.

Masters of the Airlucked out” with casting, in Goetzman’s words, securing multiple stars in the midst of meteoric rises. The ensemble is led, first and foremost, by Austin Butler, who is best known for his Oscar-nominated performance in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis movie, starring alongside Tom Hanks. Butler is also set for a strong 2024 with his villainous turn as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in Dune: Part Two and a lead role in The Bikeriders. The WWII show also stars Callum Turner, who is known for his role as Theseus Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts series.

Barry Keoghan is currently on fire, coming off his Oscar-nominated performance in The Banshees of Inisherin and, more recently, Saltburn, which earned him a nod at the Golden Globes. Ncuti Gatwa, known for his breakout role in Sex Education, appeared in the biggest movie of 2023, Barbie, and the same year, began playing the fifteenth incarnation of the Doctor in the BBC’s Doctor Who. Stars like Anthony Boyle, Nate Mann, and Raff Law aren’t as known as the aforementioned actors, though they are sure to make an equal impression on Masters of the Air.
