Outlander Season 6 Trailer: Jamie Plays Both Sides in Revolutionary War

Jamie struggles to play both loyalist and rebel in the Outlander season 6 trailer. The STARZ show based on the series of novels of the same name by Diana Gabaldon premiered in 2014 and has enjoyed a strong fan-following throughout its run. Outlander season 6 episode 1 is scheduled to air on March 6.

The series primarily follows Caitríona Balfe’s Claire, a former WWII nurse who is transported back to 1743 while visiting Scotland and meets Sam Heughan’s Jamie, a Highland warrior from the fictionalized Clan Fraser of Lovat. The two and their friends and family have travelled and endured much across five seasons, and the couple currently find themselves in the American colonies, where they have built a home in Fraser’s Ridge, North Carolina. Though Jamie is close with the British authorities, he is burdened with the knowledge of the outcome of the Revolutionary War that looms on the horizon, placing him and his family in a difficult position.

It appears this dual role will be tested in the upcoming Outlander season 6, according to a new trailer shared by STARZ. Claire notes that the conflict is starting to begin in earnest, and Jamie complains that he cannot continue to be both loyalist and rebel for long. Additionally, tensions are brewing between them and their Mohawk neighbors and allies, who Jamie fears could soon become their enemies. Check out the trailer below:

Notably absent from the trailer, however, are direct references to the traumatic events of the Outlander season 5 finale. In the episode, Claire is abducted by a group of men and subjected to repeated sexual violence, forcing her to take refuge in a dissociative fantasy until she is eventually rescued by Jamie. Actor Sophie Skelton, who plays Claire’s daughter Brianna in the series, has said her character will help Claire process her trauma in season 6, ensuring the difficult episode will be properly dealt with in the coming episodes.

Outlander fans are sure to be excited by the trailer dropping, as the March season 6 premiere will be the first new episode since May 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic delayed filming. However, given the show’s history of subjecting its characters to dark and challenging events, the specter of war (and that shot of what looks like a funeral) will also have prospective viewers nervous. The wait is almost over, but until then, Outlander fans will want to breakdown this footage to try and prepare for whatever lies in store for the Frasers.
