What Happened In Oshi No Ko Episode #7?

Aqua in episode 7

Oshi no Ko episode #7, “Buzz”, followed the fallout of Akane Kurokawa’s suicide attempt and Aqua saving her life. Receiving support from Aqua and the cast of Love Now was enough to make Akane decide to keep living, but Aqua refused to let things end like that. Working with the rest of the cast, Aqua compiled footage and photos of everyone getting along with Akane to make a video that would turn public opinion of Akane around and expose the studio for being complicit in her controversy. The video didn’t stop the bullying, but it did bring things to a point where Akane was receiving more support than criticism.

Following Akane’s return to Love Now, Aqua suggests that she start acting with a persona to deflect future criticism, and after hearing that Ai was Aqua’s ideal girl, Akane decided to try emulating Ai. This results in Akane going through a deep analysis of every publicized account of Ai’s life to figure out every detail about her, no matter how small, and she was even able to conclude that Ai was intimate with someone—Aqua and Ruby’s father—when she was 15. Later, on Akane’s first day of filming following her suicide attempt, Akane left Aqua stunned when she began perfectly imitating Ai, even manifesting the same stars in her eyes.

Oshi No Ko Episode #7 Is Setting Up A Major Role For Akane

Akane imitating Ai

If there’s anything to take away from Oshi no Ko episode #7’s ending, it’s that Akane is being set up to play a major role in the story going forward. Episode #7 showed that Akane was able to analyze Ai’s life to such a degree that she could perfectly imitate her, so if pushed to go even further, Akane could figure out even more secrets about Ai’s life, including the identity of Aqua and Ruby’s father. Aqua is bound to come to that sort of conclusion and rope her into his revenge plan, and once that happens, Akane will definitively become a central character in Oshi no Ko.

If Akane does take on a role like that, however, it would also mean that she’d be put in tremendous danger. If Aqua and Ruby’s father is still trying to keep his relationship with Ai under wraps, then Akane trying to uncover his identity could put her on his radar, and that, of course, could lead to him trying to kill her as well. A dramatic turn of events like that wouldn’t be impossible for a series like Oshi no Ko, and to find out fans will have to tune in when episode #8 releases on June 7.
