The original Ghostbusters crew puts on their suits again in a new image from Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Ghostbusters was first released in 1984, and featured a leading cast of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, and Rick Moranis. Now, Murray, Hudson, and Aykroyd will return to fight ghosts in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, which is set for release on March 22.
From Empire, a new image from Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire shows members of the original cast with one twist. In the image, Aykroyd, Murray, and Hudson are clad in their Ghostbusters attire, but instead of being joined by Dr. Spengler, Annie Potts’ Janine joins the team. Check out the image below:
What To Expect From Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is the follow-up to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The films represent the second attempt to remake Ghostbusters for a 21st century audience, the first being in the widely-criticized 2016 remake of Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters: Afterlife was directed by Jason Reitman, son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, who steps in as a producer and writer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire returns the original cast members alongside a set of newer actors introduced in Afterlife. These cast members include Carrie Coon, McKenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Patton Oswalt, and Kumail Nanjiani. Including older actors alongside newer stars will give Frozen Empire a chance to provide updates to the story while still retaining the nostalgia of the 1984 rendition of the film.
Frozen Empire Is Taking Ghostbusters In A Direction It Should’ve Gone Over 3 Decades Ago
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is taking the franchise in an exciting new direction, and one it really should have gone in over 30 years before.
As per the new image, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will also expand upon the Ghostbusters lore by providing updates to the roles of the older cast members as well. Janine has historically assumed the role of the secretary for the Ghostbusters, who only occasionally busts out the ghoul-fighting garb herself. In the image, Janine’s costume would suggest a more full-time entry into the main Ghostbusters team. All will be revealed soon as Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire soon releases in theaters.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire continues the story of a new generation of ghost hunters composed of Phoebe (Mckenna Grace), Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) and Podcast (Logan Kim), who received help from the original team in the previous movie. Paul Rudd returns as Gary Grooberson and franchise co-creator Ivan Reitman returns to write and produce.
