Original Frozen director Jennifer Lee has offered up a positive update about the upcoming Frozen 3. The new film was announced in February 2023, four years after Frozen II was released. If the previous two movies are any indication, the upcoming sequel will continue focusing on Anna and Elsa while expanding the world of Arendelle.

Speaking with Comicbook.com, Lee – who is not directing the upcoming sequel – gave a positive update about the upcoming Frozen 3, teasing the exciting adventure to come. While she didn’t offer up any details surrounding the film’s plot, she did indicate the ideas being used for the movie are invigorating. Check out what Lee had to say below:

The only thing I can say is Bob has announced there’s more Frozen. And I’ll say what we are working on, I am very, very, very excited about. That’s all I can say

Everything We Know About Frozen 3

There are no plot details yet for what Frozen 3 will be about, but the movie will no doubt continue to expand on what was established in the first two films. The initial sequel explored the larger world of the franchise, expanding on the mythology of the franchise’s world. This means the characters in Frozen 3 may be in for an even larger adventure than initially portrayed in the first two movies.

The next film in the franchise could also be a major box office relief for Disney, who have seen many of their movies in 2023 underperforming. Frozen II earned $1.453 billion at the worldwide box office against a budget of $150 million, spelling out a good future for the next film’s success. While it’s unclear if the upcoming sequel could earn as much as its predecessor, the continued popularity of the franchise makes it a very real possibility.

The next film could also lead to a further expansion of the franchise later on. Perhaps the movie could set up a Frozen live-action TV series in the future, or more animated shorts like 2015’s Frozen Fever. Whatever is in store for Frozen 3, Lee’s excitement indicates it will be another quality installment in the movie series.
