Original Avengers Detail Spells Trouble For The MCU’s Newest Team-Up Movie

After years of speculation, the MCU has finally confirmed that the Young Avengers will form soon, but the team already has an awkward problem when compared to the original Avengers. While the MCU has been introducing or teasing younger Marvel heroes like Kate Bishop, Riri Williams, and others to the big and small screens, The Marvels‘ ending sees Kamala Khan do her best Nick Fury impression and recruit Kate Bishop to a new team. It’s unknown if the Young Avengers will get their own movie, a TV show, or simply be integrated into one of the MCU’s other upcoming projects.

What exactly the MCU’s Young Avengers team roster will look like is another question. So far, Kamala (Ms. Marvel) and Kate (Hawkeye) are locked, and Cassie Lang is mentioned as someone Kamala has her eyes on. However, while positioned as new, upcoming heroes or proteges of more established Avengers, by the time the Young Avengers actually form, they may not really live up to their name.

The MCU’s Young Avengers: Everything We Know So Far

Marvel Studios has finally provided the first official tease of the MCU’s Young Avengers, meaning the team will likely form in the MCU very soon.

The Young Avengers Will Be About As Old As The Avengers 2012 Cast When They Get A Movie Or Show

There’s currently no date or announced project for when the Young Avengers will unite on-screen, but the most likely options seem to be one of the MCU’s three reserved release dates in 2026 without an announced movie attached or in the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, also set to release the same year. With 2026 seeming like the earliest for the team’s proper debut, several of the Young Avengers will be about the same age as the original team was when The Avengers (2012) came out. This means that the “Young” Avengers won’t really live up to their name.

Avengers Actors Age When The Avengers Released

Potential Young Avengers In A 2026 Project

Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) – 43

Hailee Steinfeld (Hawkeye) – 30

Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) – 41

Dominique Thorne (Ironheart) – 29

Chris Evans (Captain America) – 31

Elijah Richardson (Patriot) – 28

Chris Hemsworth (Thor) – 29

Kathryn Newton (Stature) – 26

Scarlet Johansson – 26

Iman Vellani – 23

While Tony Stark (Robery Downey Jr.) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) were a bit older than their teammates in The Avengers, the rest were in their upper 20s or low 30s. Chris Hemsworth was 29, Chris Evans was 31, and Scarlett Johansson was only 28 (and each would be a bit younger when the movie was actually filming). Comparatively, in 2026, the Young Avengers will have some truly younger recruits, but Hailee Steinfeld (Kate Bishop) will be 30, Dominique Thorne (Riri Williams) will be 29, Kathryn Newton (Cassie Lang) will be 26, and Elijah Richardson (Eli Bradley) will be 28.

Why The Young Avengers Can Still Work Despite Their Age

Despite several likely members of the MCU’s Young Avengers team being close in age to the original group, the burgeoning superhero squad can still work on-screen. One reason is that the full roster is still largely unknown, and even if a few heroes skew older, keeping them at the top end of a group comprised of other, younger heroes still means the Young Avengers will have a low average age. The other important distinction is that even the older actors set to play Young Avengers look young compared to the likes of Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans in 2012.

Spider-Man is one of the MCU’s younger heroes, making him seem like a good choice for the upcoming Young Avengers team led by Ms. Marvel.

There’s Still Plenty Of Room For Younger Young Avengers To Join The Team

While some of the likely members of the Young Avengers will be in their upper 20s to early 30s by the time they’re likely to unite, there are still several established MCU characters and potential recruits who are quite young. Billy and Tommy Maximoff were children in WandaVision, and even if they’re recast and aged up a bit for their return, they likely won’t be adults. Other characters like Kid Loki, Prince T’Challa, Phyla, and Love could also find their way onto the team and live up to its name.

Moreover, even if the Young Avengers do end up trending close in age to the original team, there’s still the fact that they’d be quite younger than their mentors and predecessors as they currently stand in the MCU. Comparatively older heroes like Thor, Hulk, Sam Wilson, Star-Lord, Nick Fury, and more are still alive and active, so the “young” differentiator would make sense in contrast. It’s hard to say what exactly the full Young Avengers roster will look like when the team officially forms, but more teasers will likely pop up in the MCU soon.
