One Star Wars Easter Egg Hints At Din Djarin’s Tragic Fate

One Star Wars Easter Egg Hints At Din Djarin’s Tragic Fate

One Star Wars Easter egg of The Mandalorian could be subtly hinting at the tragic fate of Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin. The titular character of The Mandalorian has quickly become a favorite among viewers since the Star Wars Disney+ TV show’s debut in 2019. As the adoptive father and Mandalorian mentor of the adorable Grogu and a secret agent of the New Republic, Din’s role in the galaxy has only become increasingly important in the wake of The Mandalorian season 3’s ending. With The Mandalorian season 4 and Dave Filoni’s The Mandalorian-era movie just around the corner, there’s no doubt Din will further cement himself into Star Wars history.

There is, however, a somewhat daunting future for his character, as well. Given the long lifespan of Grogu’s species and Din’s typical human one, a life for Grogu without Din is inevitable, just as Luke Skywalker has already warned Grogu about – but when exactly Grogu has to start living without his father is still unknown. Viewers have predicted Din meeting his fate time and time again at the conclusion of every The Mandalorian season finale, particularly in season 3 when he’s captured by Moff Gideon. Ironically enough, Din is also the Star Wars character who has perhaps come the closest to meeting his fate without actually dying the most amount of times, but one Star Wars Easter egg suggests his demise may be sooner than viewers think.

Din Djarin’s Mandalorian Helmet Is On Display At Galaxy’s Edge… & It’s Canon

One Star Wars Easter Egg Hints At Din Djarin’s Tragic Fate

The planet of Batuu as featured in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the Star Wars-themed land at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts, has an Easter egg of The Mandalorian directly inside one of its merchandise stores. Dok Ondar’s Den of Antiquities is the shop known for its impressive display of never-ending Star Wars Easter eggs, and despite the fact this store opened months before The Mandalorian actually premiered, both Din’s helmet and his Amban phase-pulse blaster rifle hang on Dok Ondar’s wall, just above his own head. They’re a perfect tribute to the series and the character, but their presence comes with a cost.

Everything at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is considered to be canon, which is why certain characters have to avoid crossing each other’s paths while wandering Black Spire Outpost. This is because the events as seen at Galaxy’s Edge occur during the sequel Star Wars trilogy era, between Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker in 34 ABY. In comparison, the events of The Mandalorian begin in 9 ABY, which means that Dok Ondar somehow got his hands on Din’s helmet and pulse rifle before the sequel trilogy. This Easter egg would then have to point towards Din somehow either forfeiting his helmet or meeting his tragic fate at some point before 34 ABY.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Saw Din Djarin Go Back To Wearing His Helmet

It could easily be assumed that Din just gives up his helmet before Dok Ondar is able to acquire it. But The Mandalorian season 3 saw Din earn his redemption in the eyes of his covert to maintain his strict helmet rule – which means he won’t be giving it up anytime soon. The Mandalorian season 3, however, also saw the Armorer’s lenience towards Bo-Katan Kryze in her ability to remove her helmet, which could change some things for Din going forward.

It’s rather unlikely, given how hard Din fought and how much he sacrificed to finally recite the creed and bathe in the Living Waters. Should the Armorer change their customs in either The Mandalorian season 4 or beyond, it could be that Din becomes less strict about the helmet rule without having to suffer any consequences. Still, what’s more likely is that Din sticks to this rule for good, and that his helmet is lost by something out of his control.

How Will Din Djarin Lose His Helmet By The Sequel Trilogy Era?

Din Djarin removes his helmet in The Mandalorian season 2 finale.

Din has already been seen in The Mandalorian fighting to the death to keep others from removing his helmet, as he was willing to do in The Mandalorian season 1 finale with IG-11. This means that something very tragic would have to happen for Din’s helmet to fall into the hands of someone like Dok Ondar for a meager display on a backwater planet. Din would have to be dead first for anyone to remove his helmet at this point, perhaps aside from his own adopted son, and that means he could meet his fate before the sequel trilogy era.

What’s even more tragic is the fact that Din’s helmet seems to canonically end up with Dok Ondar, rather than with Grogu. It’s typically custom for Mandalorian children to take on the armor of their parents to pass it on through the generations, constantly reworking and reshaping the beskar steel. Given that Din isn’t the type to break such Mandalorian tradition, this would have to mean that he loses his helmet in a way that’s far out of his control, something bad enough where even Grogu couldn’t recover this important piece of his father’s life. Knowing that Din and Grogu will be an important part of the fight against Grand Admiral Thrawn makes this idea seem even more daunting, as Din’s helmet could first very well fall into Thrawn’s hands before being brought or found elsewhere.

Much of this, however, is pure speculation, as most of the Easter eggs at Dok Ondar’s are displayed for the fun of Star Wars-loving travelers. It could very well be that Dok Ondar simply made his own replicas of Din’s helmet and pulse rifle, especially since the latter has already been destroyed in Star Wars canon with the Razor Crest on Tython. Din even canonically peruses Black Spire Outpost, which means that Dok Ondar would have already had his helmet and rifle on display while Djarin was on-world. What’s more likely, then, is that the helmet and rifle were included in the design of Dok Ondar’s as a way of introducing Din Djarin to the galaxy just a few months before The Mandalorian season 1 premiered, and that Din’s eventual fate will be determined by other factors – though this tragic fate is also written for him should they choose it.
