One-Punch Man Confirms A Huge Theory About God

Warning: SPOILERS for chapter #176 of One-Punch Man

One-Punch Man has confirmed a huge theory that connects two of its biggest mysteries: the enigmatic villain known as God and the prophecy “The Earth is in trouble” left behind by the seer Shibabawa. This prophecy is one of the underlying plot threads of the series, and it predicted the arrival of the biggest threat ever faced by Earth, which is now confirmed to be God, a mysterious character that has been teased as the ultimate villain of the story.

Before her death, the great seer Shibabawa left behind an ominous prophecy with a simple message: “The Earth is in trouble!“. The catastrophe was unspecified but is coming in the span of a year, and Shibabawa was never wrong before. Many villains in the series, including Boros, Monster King Orochi, and the Hero Hunter Garou, have been thought to be the heralds of the foretold catastrophe, but their threat was always thwarted by the heroes (mostly by Saitama), and the Earth stands still. However, thanks to Psykos, a powerful esper who has also developed the power of prophecy, the riddle has finally been solved and the identity of the greatest danger ever faced by Earth has been revealed.

Chapter #176 of One-Punch Man provides more insight into the past of Psykos, who, under the guise of Gyoro Gyoro, created the Monster Association to exterminate humans on Earth. Before that, however, she was a friend of Fubuki and the vice president of the “Society for Supernatural Research”. To keep up with Fubuki’s amazing psychic powers, Psykos researched a new ability, the “Third Eye”, which allowed her to see into the future. Her vision, however, drove Psykos almost mad. After she barely survived the battle against the Hero Association, Psykos was ultimately defeated and captured by Fubuki, who peered inside her mind to understand what drove her to madness and evil. What Fubuki sees is an image of God, thus confirming that he is the threat of the prophecy.

God Is The Catastrophe Predicted By The “Earth Is In Danger!” Prophecy

The chapter is very clear in connecting Psykos’ vision to Shibabawa’s prophecy, so there is no doubt that they have the same subject. Fubuki, however, is not aware of who God is, and that’s why she wants to talk to Psykos while she is imprisoned. However, another group is after the Third Eye and its visions, Tsukuyomi, a mysterious organization that wants to kidnap Psykos to extract her power. This was the first clue that Psykos’ vision held the answer to this One-Punch Man mystery, which was then undeniably confirmed in chapter #176 through the appearance of God.

There are still a lot of questions that have to be answered. God is the biggest threat that Earth ever faced, but his goals or plan have not been revealed yet. Blast, the hero who has been fighting against God in secret for twenty years, should have some of the answers. Also, the role of Tsukuyomi is still unclear: they could be interested in Psykos’ vision because they are looking for clues on how to free God from his prison. For now, at least one of the big mysteries of One-Punch Man has been solved, and fans know that the famous prophecy was about God, who seems to be indeed the final villain of the series.
