One Piece Nami Actor Celebrates Filming Wrap With Heartfelt Post

One Piece‘s Nami actor Emily Rudd announces she has wrapped filming on season 1 of the Netflix show with a heartfelt post on social media. Netflix’s upcoming One Piece series is a live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s ongoing manga of the same name. Like the manga, the Netflix show will follow the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, as they sail the Grand Line in search of the titular One Piece, mythical treasure that will allow him to become the next Pirate King.

Who Killed Sara? star Iñaki Godoy leads the live-action One Piece cast as Luffy alongside Pacific Rim: Uprising‘s Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Greenleaf‘s Jacob Gibson as Usopp, and Boiling Point‘s Taz Skylar as Sanji. Rudd, known for her dual role in Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy, plays Nami, a mysterious thief who serves as the Straw Hat Pirates’ navigator and dreams of drawing a map of the world. Netflix’s One Piece was first announced in early 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic slowed early development. Updates were slim for a while. The series finally kicked off production at the beginning of the year and now, another exciting One Piece update is here.

In an emotional post on Instagram, Emily Rudd announced she has finished filming One Piece season 1 (via One Piece Netflix Fan). The Nami actor called the past year of production a “wild and wonderful” time and thanked Netflix and everyone involved for “making this one of the most special experiences of [her] life and career.” Check out her full post below:

In February of this year, Rudd documented her first day filming One Piece with various set photos. It’s only fitting then that now, seven months later, Rudd has shared another heartfelt social media post announcing that she has wrapped filming on the Netflix adaptation. While Rudd is finished filming season 1, it appears the series is still in production, as One Piece‘s co-showrunner and executive producer, Matt Owens, commented on Rudd’s post, saying “Wait we’re not done check the prelim.” Nevertheless, the confirmation that certain people are wrapping is a positive bit of progress for One Piece.

With the core cast beginning to wrap up their time on One Piece season 1, this is a fairly good indication the show’s full production wrap is right around the corner. Once filming is finished, the show will likely require a lengthy post-production period since a lot of special effects will be needed to bring the adventures of Luffy and the Straw Hats to life. Netflix hasn’t announced an official release date for One Piece yet, so it may not hit the streaming service until the summer of 2023 at the earliest.
