Following her recent return in season 3, Amy Sedaris is sharing her thoughts on Peli Motto’s The Mandalorian future. Sedaris made her debut in the Star Wars series with season 1’s “The Gunslinger”, seen running a ship repair facility in Mos Eisley on Tatooine and fixing up the Razor Crest while Pedro Pascal’s Mando sought to collect the bounty on Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand. Initially scoring rave reviews for Sedaris’ comedic relief, Peli Motto has become something of a divisive character with her appearances in subsequent Mandalorian seasons and The Book of Boba Fett.

While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant to discuss her new Hillshire Farm campaign, Amy Sedaris was asked about her Star Wars future as The Mandalorian‘s Peli Motto. Though not directly teasing any future plans for the character, she did express her love of working on the series and how she feels the Tatooine mechanic could return. See what Sedaris shared below:

It’s a lot of fun, that show, I’ll tell you, I really love working on it. There’s something I like about Peli not changing. In Boba Fett, she did leave her her garage, and you saw her in the outside world, that was kind of thrilling. But I also like people that don’t leave their environments, I kind of like that things don’t change sometimes, that the action has to come to her, and Mando needs his craft fixed, or whatever. I kind of like having my area it’s like guys, when they’re grilling outdoors, they like to stay by that grill. That’s what they do for the whole party, they’re tending the grill, people come to them and talk to them, but it’s like, “Don’t, I got a job to do.” Peli’s kind of like that to me. Oh, wow, all of [the characters], man, bring them on. They’re all so freaky-looking, a lot of them. But in a way, I kind of like that they don’t, I like that it’s Mando and little Grogu, no surprises. [Chuckles] But it’d be like trick or treating if any of them showed up on my set for a week.

Why Peli Motto Is So Divisive (Despite Originally Being Loved)

Upon her initial debut in The Mandalorian, Peli Motto became a fan-favorite supporting player for the Star Wars series, with Sedaris herself even becoming a trending topic on Twitter after her arrival in the show. In addition to the Emmy nominee’s sense of comedic timing, critics and audiences alike were taken with Sedaris’ nurturing care of Grogu during Mando’s mission and her unique appearance, which drew frequent comparisons to Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley in Alien.

Despite this initial love, however, Peli has become one of the more divisive figures in Disney+’s Star Wars universe, which most agree stems from her appearance in The Book of Boba Fett. While the Mandalorian spin-off series, which itself proved divisive amongst critics and Star Wars fans, still showed her skills as a mechanic and even in battle, its lackluster writing and her further relegation to comedic relief drew many unfortunate comparisons to one of the franchise’s most infamous characters, Jar Jar Binks.

Though The Mandalorian season 3 continued the show’s positive review streak, it did feature more divisive elements outside of Peli Motto, namely Jack Black and Lizzo’s cameos in episode 6. However, with Sedaris’ character only appearing in episode 2 and both a season 4 and Mandalorian movie all in the works, one can hope Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau listen to audience feedback and find a way to bring Peli back to what audiences loved about her in her early Star Wars days.
