One Day At A Time Star Reuniting With Reboot Creator For New Show

Amazon’s upcoming show With Love has cast One Day at a Time‘s Todd Grinnell in an important role, reuniting him with the reboot’s co-creator Gloria Calderón Kellett. Grinnell played Schneider on One Day at a Time, which ran from 2017-2020. Kellett’s developing With Love as a part of her big overall deal with Amazon Studios. Her hour-long rom-com show explores the lives of two siblings, Lily and Jorge Diaz, as they set out to find love and purpose. In their journey of discovery, which they undertake during the holidays, Jorge and Lily come across some disparate residents, who have a major influence on their existential quests. With Love already cast Emeraude Tobia and Mark Indelicato in the lead roles, and now some additional cast members have been announced for the show.

According to Deadline, Grinnell has joined With Love as a series regular. He will play Dr. Miles Murphy, a tender-hearted reconstructive plastic surgeon. Grinnell’s character is interested in Sol Perez, Lily and Jorge’s cousin and a trans non-binary oncology resident. Sol will be played by When They See Us‘ Isis King. Additionally, two more actors have been confirmed for With Love: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s Desmond Chiam, who plays Jorge’s best friend Nick Zhao, and How to Get Away With Murder‘s Rome Flynn, who portrays Santiago Zayas, described as “a modern Afro-Cuban American Mr. Darcy.”

Grinnell’s casting and reteaming with Kellett is exciting news for viewers who were shattered by One Day at a Time‘s unfortunate cancellation. Grinnell is well-regarded for his comic timing, and there is no doubt he’ll imbue With Love with his signature humor. Grinnell and Kellett’s partnership worked wonders for One Day at a Time. The magic will hopefully be recreated on With Love, offering audiences a dose of nostalgia and merriment.
