One Change Would Make Starfield Ship Building So Much Easier

While Starfield‘s ship-building offers a great avenue for players to express creativity, the builder is missing one crucial feature that would streamline the process, especially when going into New Game Plus. As Starfield is an open-world, space-faring RPG, much of the game’s traversal relies heavily upon piloting spaceships to visit different planets and other locations. However, while pre-built ships can be bought or provided as rewards for certain quests, Starfield also includes a versatile ship-building system that allows players to make unique creations, like iconic ships from other franchises or their own personal designs.

Creating a personal ship can be one of Starfield‘s most appealing draws, but creating an ideal spacecraft and tuning its various stats can also be a lengthy process, gated further by high credit costs and the need for a high level in the Piloting skill to use Class B or C ships. Additionally, some parts need the player character to have certain skills at a high enough level as well, such as Starship Engineering. Moreover, as players can change between multiple ships in Starfield, those who want to have several specialized vehicles will find their time spent in the ship-building menu increases drastically.

Starfield’s Ship Builder Is Missing An Important Feature

While the game’s ship-building mechanics have a fair amount of depth and allow for unique creations, one missing feature holds it back – the lack of any ability to save ship blueprints to easily recreate specific builds. Creating custom ships is a time-consuming process, as even small details might need to be adjusted to get a certain function or look, so the ability to save certain builds would certainly come in handy. Additionally, the lack of any function to save builds is especially problematic when it comes to Starfield‘s New Game Plus.

Saving Ship Builds Would Be Useful Addition – Especially For New Game Plus

When ending a first playthrough and moving to a New Game Plus, players lose every ship they had on the first playthrough except the Frontier, the starter ship that will simply be given again after the introductory quest. Unfortunately, while pre-built ships are relatively easy to either buy or acquire again, any custom ships will have to be painstakingly rebuilt from memory – after the necessary parts have been reacquired. For those who enjoy having their own personalized vehicles, this can mean a lot of extra time spent recreating the ships from scratch, creating a problem that could be mitigated with the ability to save ship builds.

Although ship-building is one of Starfield‘s best features, allowing for in-depth customization and creativity, the lack of any ability to save ship blueprints or builds means that less time can be spent actually flying the ships that are built – especially once a playthrough rolls over to New Game Plus. Adding the ability to easily access and build saved blueprints, either in a patch or DLC, would fix one of the few issues with the mechanic and ease the process of creating a personalized ship in Starfield.
