Obi-Wan Was Right About The Chosen One In Revenge Of The Sith

Obi-Wan Was Right About The Chosen One In Revenge Of The Sith

Star Wars has proven that Obi-Wan Kenobi was right about the Chosen One during Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Throughout the prequel trilogy, Star Wars’ Chosen One prophecy was used as a major plot point. Despite being absent from the original trilogy, George Lucas introduced the idea that a Force user would eventually become the Chosen One of the Force and bring balance to the galaxy.

Given Anakin’s fall to the dark side during Revenge of the Sith, many major characters eventually began to believe that Luke Skywalker was Star Wars‘ Chosen One. This included Obi-Wan Kenobi who revealed to Maul during Star Wars Rebels that he believed Luke would bring balance to the Force. That said, Obi-Wan hinted that he believed Anakin would do this during Revenge of the Sith, something he was eventually proven right about.

Anakin’s Fall (And Order 66) Were Opposed To The Will of The Force

Obi-Wan Was Right About The Chosen One In Revenge Of The Sith

In Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan Kenobi insists that Anakin was supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them. As is known, Darth Vader does both though it could be argued that Obi-Wan was proved incorrect in his belief in the Chosen One after Star Wars’ Order 66 and Anakin’s turn to the dark side. The reason for this is that Star Wars has revealed that these events were not the will of the Force. Many people have assumed that – considering Anakin eventually fulfills his prophecy by killing Palpatine – the will of the Force was to turn him to the dark side as a means of paving his path.

However, the book The Clone Wars: Stories of Light and Dark revealed that Yoda received Force visions at the beginning of the war warning him of Order 66. If this were the case, it is clear that the Force did not wish for the Jedi to be wiped out nor for Anakin to be lost to the dark side. Despite this, Star Wars eventually proved that Obi-Wan Kenobi was right to believe his friend would bring balance to the Force.

Obi-Wan Was Right About Anakin Skywalker’s True Destiny

Of course, Obi-Wan was proved right when Darth Vader kills Palpatine aboard the Death Star II in Return of the Jedi. While the will of the Force may not have intended for Anakin’s journey to go the way it did, eventually the mystical power course-corrected. In enabling Vader to destroy Palpatine and end the Sith – at least for a time – the Force pushed Anakin to fulfill his destiny.

This subsequently proved Kenobi correct. While the Jedi eventually went on to believe that Luke Skywalker would bring balance to the Force, which was also correct in a sense, Anakin was ultimately the one who destroyed the Sith. As such, Obi-Wan’s words that Anakin was supposed to do this from Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith were entirely right, even if the way in which it played out was not the will of the Force,
