Obi-Wan vs Darth Vader With Revenge Of The Sith Score Is Even More Epic

WARNING: Contains spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 6

The battle between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader in the Obi-Wan Kenobi finale has been re-scored with tracks from Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and it makes the scene even more epic. Set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, the Disney+ series sees the titular Jedi Knight (Ewan McGregor) being called-upon to come out of hiding on Tatooine to help save a young Princess Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair). However, in his efforts to rescue her from the clutches of the Empire, Kenobi is forced to confront Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), his former apprentice who has since become the fearsome Sith Lord, Darth Vader.

Over the course of Obi-Wan Kenobi, McGregor’s Jedi not only confronts Darth Vader again for the first time in over ten years, but he battles him twice within a matter of days. During their first encounter in the third episode, Obi-Wan is shown to be much weaker than he was in Revenge of the Sith, a result of having cut himself off from the Force for so long. As such, he only narrowly escapes death after being saved by Rebel spy Tala Durith (Indira Varma). But when he voluntarily engages in a lightsaber duel with the Sith Lord in the finale, in order to move his attentions away from an escaping Leia, Kenobi manages to overcome Vader after regaining much of his force powers and abilities.

Now, a devoted Star Wars fan has re-scored the rematch between Obi-Wan and Vader with music from the soundtrack that John Williams composed for Revenge of the Sith. Uploading the video onto YouTube, user CineVore adds a number of well-known tracks from the 2005 movie which draw several parallels between the prequel and the Disney series. Check-out the newly-scored battle below:

Although Obi-Wan Kenobi’s main theme was written by Williams, the series was composed by Natalie Holt, the first woman to compose a live-action Star Wars entry. And although the series mostly features new themes and motifs by Holt, some of Williams’s previous work is referenced in the show, such as “The Imperial March” and “Princess Leia’s Theme”. However, CineVore’s re-score completely utilizes Williams’s Revenge of the Sith soundtrack. Not only does it include the music used for Obi-Wan and Anakin’s Mustafar fight, “Battle of the Heroes” and “Anakin vs. Obi-Wan,” but also the more sombre and moving “Anakin’s Dark Deeds.”

As a direct follow-up to Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan Kenobi features a number of references and allusions to the prequel trilogy’s finale, from returning cast members and surprise cameos to even repetitions of bits of the film’s dialogue. This re-scoring of Obi-Wan and Vader’s battle using music from their last major lightsaber fight on Mustafar, therefore, feels very appropriate for the series. There’s certainly no doubt that many viewers will delight in the heightened parallels and similarities between the two encounters that it brings. And with the possibility of Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 seemingly being considered, many may wonder whether Disney/Lucasfilm will also start using more of Williams’s previous Star Wars scores in future installments.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is now streaming on Disney+.
