Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 4 Copies 5 Things From Jedi: Fallen Order

Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 4 Copies 5 Things From Jedi: Fallen Order

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4.

In Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4, the Jedi Master embarks on a rescue mission that copies five things from the Jedi: Fallen Order video game. Mirroring Cal Kestis’ final mission to infiltrate the Empire’s Fortress Inquisitorius, Obi-Wan’s own mission is very similar. Taking place five years after the events of Fallen Order, there are more similarities beyond just the location being the same.

Following Obi-Wan’s duel with Darth Vader where Kenobi almost died, Tala rescued Obi-Wan and got him to Jabiim to heal and regroup. However, the Inquisitor known as Third Sister (aka Reva) kidnapped Princess Leia and took her to the Fortress Inquisitorius on Nur. Discovering that Leia is in danger, Obi-Wan and Tala come up with a rescue plan to break into the Fortress and get Leia out of there.

Essentially, Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4 feels like a live-action homage to Jedi: Fallen Order. The Fortress Inquisitorius is fully realized, and there are some fun connections to the location as seen in the game that proves an accuracy to the preexisting Star Wars canon. However, some of the things this episode copies from the game go beyond this idea. There are a couple of moments where the episode almost directly recycles plot points from the game. Here are the five biggest ways Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4 copies Jedi: Fallen Order.

Obi-Wan Enters The Fortress Inquisitorius (Just Like Cal)

Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 4 Copies 5 Things From Jedi: Fallen Order

Fallen Order is copied from almost the very beginning of Tala and Obi-Wan’s rescue mission to save Leia. Using her Imperial clearance to fly into the Fortress hangar, Tala quickly finds a terminal to open an underwater hatch. This allows Obi-Wan to swim and enter the Fortress undetected. This is exactly what Jedi Knight and Order 66 survivor Cal Kestis did five years earlier during his own mission to infiltrate the Inquisitors’ largely underwater base of operations. Needing to recover a Jedi holocron with a list of potential Force-sensitive children, Cal found an opened hatch while swimming underwater with a rebreather and entered undetected, just like Obi-Wan does five years later. One would think that the Inquisitors would have beefed up their security around this point of entry after the breach by Kestis. It shouldn’t be that easy to get into what should be one of the Empire’s most secure facilities (especially after the first time). That said, the Empire does have a history of overlooking structural flaws and weaknesses.

Obi-Wan Receiving Help From Tala

Tala-In-Obi-Wan-Kenobi-Episode-4

Obi-Wan isn’t alone as he sneaks through the Fortress. He thankfully has Tala Durith guiding him with schematics and opening doors as he searches for Leia. Her role as a secondary ally with access mirrors Cere Junda’s role in Fallen Order. A Jedi Master who was captured by the Inquisitors and escaped once before, Cere joined Cal and provided him with her experience and knowledge of the base while also getting him through entryways that would have stayed locked without her help. Tala fulfills a very similar role in comparison thanks to her Imperial clearance, granting Obi-Wan access while also providing distractions when needed.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Flooding A Hallway

Obi-Wan-Holding-Back-Flood-In-Episode-4

Another big moment from Jedi: Fallen Order seen in Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4 is when Obi-Wan Kenobi uses the Force to hold back the ocean from crashing into a corridor until the squad of stormtroopers is right in its path of destruction. In Fallen Order, Cal Kestis similarly shatters a couple of windows to flood corridors in the Fortress Inquisitorius. The most notable instance was to escape Darth Vader himself, forcing the Dark Lord of the Sith to contend with the powerful wave of water while he and Cere escaped to the surface. Again, one has to wonder why the Empire didn’t improve security after a Jedi flooded major sections of the Fortress. Instead, the same thing is happening again only five years later, just with a different Jedi.

Purge Troopers From Jedi: Fallen Order

Purge-Troopers-In-Obi-Wan-Kenobi-Episode-4

While only featured a handful of times in Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4, the Fortress Inquisitorius does deploy purge troopers to go after the Jedi Master. Purge troopers made their debut in Jedi: Fallen Order and were consistent enemies of Cal Kestis. Wearing unique black and red armor, purge troopers were specially trained to take down Jedi and those who could use the Force, serving directly under the Imperial Inquisitors. While some used more traditional blaster rifles, others preferred close-quarters electrostaffs or batons capable of blocking lightsaber strikes. While it looks as though the live-action purge troopers only have blasters, it’s a fun nod to the Star Wars canon and their role in Fallen Order nonetheless.

Facing A Named Imperial Inquisitor (Before Escaping)

Reva-In-Obi-Wan-Kenobi-Episode-4

As the Obi-Wan Kenobi series continues, it’s becoming more and more evident that Reva’s Third Sister carries a very similar origin to the Second Sister who died as the main antagonist in Jedi: Fallen Order. A padawan who was captured and tortured by the Imperial Inquisitors, Trilla Suduri was psychologically reconditioned to become the Second Sister seeking revenge upon her master Cere who was tortured into giving up her location to the Empire. Cal and Cere managed to get through to Trilla after recovering the holocron, though Darth Vader’s arrival saw him kill the Second Sister for her weakness and failure, resulting in the two Jedi barely escaping with their lives.

While the Inquisitors’ real names are stripped away in favor of their numbers, the names of both Second and Third Sister are known. Likewise, it’s been heavily teased by Reva that she was a padawan just like Trilla, taken by the Inquisitors and made to hate the Jedi Order. While Reva bought herself some time before Darth Vader’s judgment, she too runs the same risk of facing the Sith Lord’s wrath; the Third Sister’s fate will likely mirror Trilla’s. While there were bound to be some similarities to Jedi: Fallen Order with Obi-Wan venturing to the Fortress Inquisitorius in this episode, the number of similarities is actually quite surprising in Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4, which will no doubt strike a debate about whether that’s a good or bad thing.
