The Nun 2 has taken two weekends to match the original movie’s opening, but it is nevertheless still turning out good box office results. The movie is the ninth outing in the Conjuring Universe, which is loosely based on the case files of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. A direct sequel to 2018’s The Nun, it follows Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) returning to face off against the demonic nun Valak (Bonnie Aarons) when it starts haunting a French boarding school.

Per Variety, the Nun 2 box office is holding strong during its second weekend in theaters. It is currently projected to round out Sunday with a cumulative gross of $55 million, finally surpassing the original movie’s $53.8 million opening weekend. It even has a chance at the No. 1 slot for the weekend, going head-to-head with the new Poirot murder mystery A Haunting in Venice.
