Nobody 2: Why Bob Odenkirk’s Action Movie Sequel Is Taking So Long Explained In Hopeful Update

Nobody 2 gets a promising update from producers David Leitch and Kelly McCormick. Directed by Ilya Naishuller, 2021’s Nobody stars Bob Odenkirk as Hutch Mansell, a seemingly normal family man who is forced to use skills from his violent past after he becomes embroiled in a showdown with Russian gangster. The movie was a hit, and it was subsequently revealed that a sequel is on the way, though it’s taken a while to get off the ground.

With no Nobody 2 release date in sight, Leitch and McCormick reveal to Collider that the sequel could potentially start filming later this year. Leitch confirms that the scripts for both Nobody 2 and Violent Night 2 are both currently still being written, and that the stars of the respective projects are “fired up” about returning. Read additional comments from McCormick and Leitch below:

“We are planning on returns to those universes. Hopefully, honestly, even potentially end of this year for Nobody 2 and, beginning of next year for Violent Night 2, if we can find time in everybody’s busy schedules. But the development’s going super well and everybody’s really, really excited about moving those worlds forward.”

David Leitch: “We’re well into a couple of drafts and things are going super well, but there’s still a little work to do.”

Why Nobody Was A Hit

And What Nobody 2 Needs To Do To Succeed

Nobody 2: Why Bob Odenkirk’s Action Movie Sequel Is Taking So Long Explained In Hopeful Update

Nobody was one of a number of movies to attempt to recreate the success of the John Wick franchise. Leitch himself actually served as co-director of the first film in the Keanu Reeves-led franchise. While not all films emulating John Wick have been successful, Nobody carved out a nice niche for itself and was able to separate itself from its contemporaries.

Nobody currently holds an impressive 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, with the audience score even higher at 94%. Clearly, the movie resonated with audiences, and Odenkirk’s performance is seemingly a big part of this. In many ways, Odenkirk is perfect for the role of Hutch. With a background in comedy, he’s far from the typical action movie star, and this actually plays into the premise of the film, with Hutch representing the last person one would expect to have the skills of an assassin.

In addition to Odenkirk, the action itself is also a major reason why Nobody‘s reviews were so positive. While perhaps not hitting the same highs as the John Wick franchise, Nobody features a handful of standout fight scenes, including one on a bus. Odenkirk, again, is a big part of why these scenes work, with the actor having trained in order to do much of the fight choreography himself. It remains to be seen how Nobody 2 will be received, but Odenkirk’s return and even more action would be a strong start.
