No Way Home’s New Spider-Man Suit Sets Up The Symbiote (Not Stark’s Suit)

No Way Home’s New Spider-Man Suit Sets Up The Symbiote (Not Stark’s Suit)

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Peter Parker crafts a new suit at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, setting up his symbiote storyline when his Stark Industries suits would have prevented it. Spider-Man received his iconic black suit at the end of the Secret Wars storyline, giving the web-slinger a new look (reminiscent of Julia Carpenter, the second Spider-Woman). The suit enhanced Peter’s Spider-Man powers and generated a seemingly unlimited supply of webbing for him, but he soon removed the suit with Reed Richards’ help after discovering that it was an alien that wished to bond with him permanently. This iconic storyline wouldn’t have worked in the MCU with Spider-Man’s Stark suits, but it could be adapted in a future Spider-Man film now that he has a low-tech costume.

Spider-Man’s first outfit in the MCU consisted of a modified hoodie and sweatpants, with goggles to focus his enhanced senses and crude web-shooters for transportation and catching criminals. Following his introduction to Tony Stark in Captain America: Civil War, Peter began using extremely sophisticated Stark Industries suits, such as the red and blue outfit and the nanotech Iron Spider suit. By the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter designed yet another costume, the red and black Upgraded Suit, using Stark’s materials to craft a more personalized version of his red and blue outfit.

No Way Home has Peter integrate nanotech from his Iron Spider armor with his Upgraded Suit, resulting in the Hybrid Suit, but Peter’s life is inexorably changed by the end of the film. With the world forgetting about his secret identity, his Aunt May deceased, and no longer having support from Tony Stark or any other hero, Peter is forced to rely only on himself (like his comic counterpart for much of his history). No Way Home ends with Peter using a classic red and blue costume that lacks advanced Stark technology, which most likely would have prevented the symbiote costume storyline from happening.

No Way Home’s New Spider-Man Suit Sets Up The Symbiote (Not Stark’s Suit)

No Way Home’s mid-credits scene features Tom Hardy’s Venom being teleported back to his home reality but leaving a small portion of the symbiote behind. This coincides quite well with Peter Parker’s new costume since his advanced Stark suits likely would have had safeguards in place to repel the alien substance from bonding with him. With a new trilogy of Tom Holland Spider-Man movies possibly in the works, a new version of the famous symbiote costume storyline could be featured in these films.

The upcoming new trilogy of Spider-Man movies could make the alien costume storyline last for more than one film, introducing an MCU version of Eddie Brock and having him bond with the symbiote after Tom Holland’s Peter Parker inevitably rejects it. With the MCU introducing a new version of the Fantastic Four in Phase 4, Peter may have the symbiote removed with Reed Richards’ help, as he did in the comics. Spider-Man’s emotional state at the end of No Way Home may make him especially vulnerable to the negative behavioral effects of the symbiote as well.

A common complaint about the MCU Spider-Man films is Peter Parker’s overreliance on high-tech Stark suits, but No Way Home wiped the slate clean for Parker, leaving him with only a basic red and blue suit and no superhero mentors to support him. Future Spider-Man films can now truly represent the Spider-Man of the comics, depicting a young adult superhero who can only rely on himself. Thanks to Spider-Man: No Way Home’s ending, Spider-Man no longer has Stark technology preventing an adaptation of the symbiote suit storyline.
