No Man’s Sky Origins Brings ‘The Beginning Of Something New’ Next Week

Hello Games says that No Man’s Sky will be getting a new update called Origins next week, to mark “the beginning of something new.” Since its troubled release, No Man’s Sky has received several major content updates that have completely revitalized the game.

No Man’s Sky Desolation released back in July, introducing creepy derelict space vessels scattered across the vastness of the in-game universe. These abandoned ships serve as points of interest for players to discover, explore, and take advantage of by collecting precious resources and items while battling dangerous enemies.

According to a brief announcement from Hello Games, No Man’s Sky Origins is coming next week. Hello Games compares the upcoming update to Foundation, which released four years ago and served as a starting point for all the future content additions. It wasn’t the largest update, but it was substantial enough to boost the game’s evolution. Hello Games is positioning Origins to do the same, saying it’s “the beginning of something new” for the game, but for the time being, the developer hasn’t provided any specific details on how it will change things. It did share a cover image including three characters – presumably a player and two NPC companions – surrounded by colorful alien environments. Interestingly, the scenery is divided into three sectors, which could imply that the update might be focused on different factions or environments. The reveal of what’s included in Origins is coming next week alongside the release.

No Man’s Sky is being updated with new content on a regular basis, and this year alone, the game has seen a fair amount of significant updates. For instance, No Man’s Sky Exo Mech added functional robotic suits as a new way to explore hostile environments of alien planets. These giant mechs protect players from various hazardous conditions and lend a helping metallic hand in gathering resources with increased efficiency. And at the beginning of 2020, No Man’s Sky received the Living Ship update, which added exactly that to the game – disturbing organic space vessels much like those found in the late ’90s sci-fi TV series Lexx.

Judging by the cover art, No Man’s Sky Origins could either revamp the companion mechanics or otherwise introduce a new wrinkle to players’ interaction. Of course, it could end up going a completely different route, as Hello Games is keeping a tight lid on its features for now. Comparing Origins to Foundation implies that massive changes are in store, and whatever Hello Games has in store, it seems to be quite confident that it will be worth the wait.

No Man’s Sky is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
