No Man’s Sky Mod Puts Founder’s Face On Every Character, To His Horror

Sean Murray, the creator of No Man’s Sky, was recently horrified to learn of a mod that replaces the heads of all characters in-game with a 3D model of his head. Despite its troubled launch in 2016, Hello Games has continued to diligently work on its title, releasing an array of free updates that have addressed the game’s initial problems.

No Man’s Sky has undergone some major changes this year, receiving three major updates thus far, with the latest being the Prisms update released earlier in June. The Prisms update, available for free, provides a complete overhaul of the game’s graphics, introducing new lighting and weather effects. What’s most exciting in the 3.5 update is that players will now be able to tame and ride flying companions, a highly requested feature since the release of the Companions update in February.

The growing No Man’s Sky modding community has produced over 300 mods in the last year alone, however, Hello Games’ founder Sean Murray has recently found out that not all mods for the game were designed with utility in mind. Tweeting the discovery, Murray revealed the existence of a new mod for the game, titled “Everyone is Sean”. The mod in question, created by WinderTP on NexusMods, replaces the heads of characters in-game with a rendering of Sean Murray. Jokingly, Murray asked fans not to download the mod, but to delete it immediately. Murray also provided some screenshots of the mod in action, with several characters standing in-game sporting his 3D likeness, all wearing an unnerving grin.

The “Everyone is Sean” mod is available to download on NexusMods for PC players, and lets players choose between a cartoonishly large bobblehead-sized head for Sean or a normal scale head. The creator of the mod doesn’t seem to reveal much behind what drove them to create the mod, other than writing “Sean” repeatedly in the description, which may be a reference to a famous glitch in Quantic Dream’s 2010 title, Heavy Rain. Despite his pleas to fans to not download the mod, one fan has already utilized “Everyone is Sean” to pit an in-game Murray against modded Sentinels reskinned to look like Thomas The Tank Engine characters.

It’s good to see No Man’s Sky fans enjoying the game, and the creation of the Everyone is Sean mod definitely suggests that player’s perception of its developers has changed considerably since the game’s controversial launch. Hello Games’ ambitious title improves significantly with each update and has earned itself some passionate fans that help push the boundaries of what the game is capable of.

No Man’s Sky is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
