No Hard Feelings Trailer: Jennifer Lawrence Returns To Movies In Raunchy Comedy

A new No Hard Feelings trailer offers a closer look at the buzzy and controversial R-rated comedy. The film, which stars Jennifer Lawrence, follows a young woman who is hired by the parents of a shy 19-year-old to date him and help bring him out of his shell. The film was directed by Gene Stupnitsky and features a cast that also includes Andrew Barth Feldman, Laura Benanti, Natalie Morales, Hasan Minhaj, and Matthew Broderick.

Today, Sony Pictures Entertainment released a brand-new trailer for the film almost exactly a month ahead of the No Hard Feelings release date of June 23.

The trailer begins by setting up the desperate situation that Lawrence’s character Maddie finds herself in as an Uber driver who doesn’t even own a car before diving deep into the raunchy comedy of the bulk of the film. This includes an alcohol-fueled party and an ill-fated lap dance where she and Feldman’s Percy eventually end up switching places.

No Hard Feelings is the Perfect Jennifer Lawrence Role for Right Now

No Hard Feelings Trailer: Jennifer Lawrence Returns To Movies In Raunchy Comedy

As this new trailer reveals, Lawrence has considerable comic chops. She is able to plant her feet firmly in both worlds, occupying the lived-in sardonic humor of the character in her natural state as well as pushing the over-the-top raunchy moments to the limit when she is called upon to do so. However, she hasn’t been afforded many opportunities to show off this way in the past.

After she burst onto the scene with her Oscar-nominated performance in 2011’s Winter’s Bone, she was more or less immediately swept up into the world of big-budget blockbusters. Her role as The Hunger Games‘ Katniss Everdeen made her a star, leading to other roles like Mystique in the new era of X-Men films. However, that didn’t leave her much time to play, as her post-Katniss career has largely involved more serious dramas and thrillers like Causeway and Mother! or, at most, dramedies like Silver Linings Playbook (which won Lawrence her first Oscar).

No Hard Feelings is Lawrence’s first foray into out-and-out comedy. She seems to be having fun embracing the out-there premise. If that turns out to be the case and the film does well, this could lead to a new career in comedy that will show audiences a whole new side of the popular actress.
