Nintendo May Have Just Leaked Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Amiibo Dates

With the recent release of the Joker and Hero amiibos, players may now know the release window for the pending Banjo-Kazooie, Byleth, and Terry amiibo from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s first Fighters Pass thanks to an unintended Nintendo leak. This revelation comes shortly after the recent Minecraft Steve reveal that crashed Twitter and caused the internet to explode, and that fast-approaching character set’s arrival will also coincide with a helping of new Mii Fighter content.

During Steve’s showcase, director Masahiro Sakurai revealed the next three Smash Bros. amiibo to be released, being Banjo-Kazooie, Terry, and Byleth. Sakurai has showcased the next line of Smash amiibos regularly during showcases of the next DLC fighter to hit the game. The release window shown in the presentation was 2021, but with this new leak, it would seem as though fans might have to wait longer than anticipated in order to get these figures on collector’s shelves.

A recent tweet from Nintendo of America’s Twitter account allegedly revealed an image that displayed a new release window for these three amiibo: Fall 2021. The post has reportedly been deleted between then and now, but the image from the original tweet was saved for posterity and shared for all by user theprinceofiris. It looks like as official as Nintendo releases come, so check it out below:

As mentioned in the tweet, should this most likely turn out to be true, Fall 2021 is a long wait time from an amiibo’s announcement to it’s release. The Joker and Hero amiibo figures were announced during Min-Min’s showcase, which was in June this year. Now, four months later, the figures are available worldwide. Having these next figures release a year from now is quite the jump compared to before. It’s possible that this delay is in part due to the effect that COVID-19 has had on production across the world. TV and film production have been put on hold as a result of the pandemic, and many stores have temporarily closed down, including the Pokémon Center store in Japan. It would make perfect sense if the pandemic is the main culprit behind this large release gap.

Whenever the amiibo gets released though, it’s certain that they’ll go on to sell very well. Joker’s amiibo is already listed as a best seller on Gamestop’s webpage. With the hype that was behind these characters announcements, there’s no doubt plenty of fans will pre order these figures when they’re available in order to add them to their collection. With the announcement of Steve coming to Smash. Bros, many have also pointed out how this means that yes, there will eventually be an amiibo figure of the Minecraft protagonist, which is a shocking pill to swallow. Until those figures are available to pre-order though, fans will be able to enjoy playing as Steve from Minecraft in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate when he joins the battle next week on October 13.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now on Nintendo Switch.
