Nightwing’s Hilarious Interrogation Tactic Proves the Robins Work Best as a Team

Nightwing’s Hilarious Interrogation Tactic Proves the Robins Work Best as a Team

Warning! Contains spoilers for Nightwing #113!

Nightwing is often considered to be one of the kindest characters in the DC Universe, which is why it’s so hard to imagine him scaring anyone. While Nightwing certainly can be scary when necessary, he just showed off his hilarious preferred method of interrogation when he’s with his brothers.

In Nightwing #113 by Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo, Nightwing, Damian, and Tim are preventing a weapons deal at the docks. Wanting to know who the buyer is for these weapons, Nightwing decides to sit by and allow Damian and Tim to play bad Robin/good Robin. This hilarious solution allows Nightwing to gain the information he needs without directly getting involved himself.

It’s a perfectly playful response to Nightwing not needing to hog the spotlight himself. Not only does Nightwing get to see his brothers in action, but they get the information they need as well, with Damian successfully intimidating a criminal into giving them an important address.

Nightwing is famously one of the nicest and most beloved heroes in the DCU. This status naturally makes it difficult for Nightwing to come off as intimidating. While he can do it, he also states in this issue that the only thing he loves more than being in the spotlight is sharing the spotlight. Because of this, instead of simply terrorizing the criminal himself, Nightwing prefers to let his brothers, Tim and Damian, handle it. Damian naturally plays the bad Robin and Tim plays the good one, and this combination easily terrifies the information out of the criminal, allowing the trio to move on.

All the Robins have had their differences in the past, with Damian and Tim famously having a hard time getting along. That’s why Nigthwing’s interrogation method is not only hilarious but also perfectly aligned with who he is. Tim and Damian have always been at odds, ever since Damian first appeared and very nearly beat Tim to death. To Nightwing, letting them play good Robin/bad Robin for the sake of interrogation is more than just sharing the spotlight, it’s also bringing two people together that typically don’t get along. As a natural-born leader, getting people to work together is one of Nightwing’s greatest strengths, and it’s on perfect display here.

Being able to bring Tim and Damian together, while also getting the job done, is the perfect encapsulation of who Nightwing is. He’s a cool and kind older brother, an incredible leader, and he also knows how to scare information out of criminals in the funniest way possible. So, while Tim and Damian may not always get along, when they’re out fighting crime with their brother Nightwing, it seems the trio will always be able to get the job done.
