Nightwing is a staple DC Comics character well-known for his heroics, acrobatic skills, and close ties to Batman and his extended Bat-Family, with his best asset unanimously agreed upon to be his plump behind. But during a time when Dick Grayson had temporarily hung up his spandex for the nondescript threads of a super spy, his butt became a tactical weakness that he couldn’t avoid.
Consistently called out for having a set of glutes that fans and fellow heroes alike can’t get enough of, Nightwing’s rear end has been highlighted in the countless compliments of those who come across Dick while he’s on the job, as well as the various comic panels, covers, and DC Comics-sanctioned swimsuit drawings he’s featured in.
And although Nightwing covers his face with a mask to keep his civilian identity secret, his butt has no such benefits, with the brutal vigilante known as Midnighter drawing attention to the fact that it may be more of a liability than anything else.

Nightwing’s Butt Is Too Recognizable To Keep His Identity Safe

A tactical weakness revealed in 2015’s Grayson #6, this series follows Dick after he becomes an undercover agent investigating a shifty organization named Spyral. Using a piece of spy tech called Hypnos, Dick aka Agent 37, can make his face appear like a swirl, yet when met by Midnighter while on a mission, this usually solid disguise is rendered moot. Teleporting in behind Dick, Midnighter comments that Dick’s Hypnos, “…may make it so I can’t see Spyral agents’ faces… but I’d know that ass anywhere,” cheekily proving that Nightwing needs to take this identity-revealing weakness seriously.
Nightwing’s butt dilemma might seem trivial at first, but when framed in the context of being recognizable by a character like Midnighter, who doesn’t even deal with him all that often, and the problem becomes far more apparent. To be fair, most villains won’t be staring at Nightwing’s cheeks in the middle of a battle long enough to make a connection — especially since they don’t know his civilian identity — but since so many heroes do know him by it, it might not be a bad idea to figure this out sooner rather than later.
Nightwing Needs To Disguise His Butt If He Wants To Stay Incognito
So while it’d be hilarious to see Dick develop a separate butt disguise solely to stop people from finding out who he is, the more logical route would be to add a full-length cape to his Nightwing costume and cover his behind entirely, something that Dick has avoided doing in the past as he feels using capes bogs him down and limits his acrobatic skills. Nightwing’s butt is world-renown at this point in his career, so maybe it’s time Dick took it easy on all the squats and glute-hardening exercises, lest his booty give him away at the worst moment.
