Who’s in Night in Paradise, and how do you know them? Written and directed by Park Hoon-Jung, the South Korean thriller follows a hitman who is betrayed by his employer and tries to survive while traveling with a terminally ill woman. The highly-anticipated 2021 movie initially premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and later released on Netflix.

Night in Paradise primarily takes place in South Korea’s Jeju Island. After the young sister of Tae-goo dies in a tragic accident, the gangster accepts a contract to murder a Seoul mob boss. After completing the contract killing, he hides out while awaiting passage to Vladivostok, Russia. At Jeju Island, however, Tae-goo learns that he’s been betrayed, and then flees with the suicidal niece of an underworld legend.

Uhm Tae-goo stars as Park Tae-goo, a Seoul gangster who murders a mob boss and then hides out at Jeju Island. He’s then betrayed and must fight for his life while traveling with a suicidal woman. Uhm portrayed Detective Eom in I Saw the Devil (streaming on Tubi) and Hashimoto in the Age of Shadows.

Jeon Yeo-Bin As Jae-Yeon

Jeon Yeo-Bin co-stars as Jae-Yeon, a terminally-ill woman who befriends Tae-goo. They never form a romantic relationship but do establish an intense bond while discussing the past. Jeon portrayed Yeong-hee in After My Death and Lee Eun-jung in Melloga Chejil. She recently appeared as Hong Cha-young in Vincenzo – a Netflix TV show.

Cha Seung-Won As Sang-Gil

Cha Seung-Won portrays Sang-gil, a ruthless mob chairman who strategizes against his underworld enemies and a Seoul politician. Cha portrayed Moo-seok Choi in Jail Breakers and Prince Gwanghae in Splendid Politics. He also appeared as Woo Ma-wang in the TV series A Korean Odyssey (streaming on Netflix).

Lee Ki-Young As Kuto

Lee Ki-young appears as Kuto, the uncle of Jae-Yeon who became a legend after seeking revenge on Russian gangsters. He provides a safe house for Tae-goo but gets targeted by Seoul mobsters. Lee portrayed Byun Ja-chae in Circle of Crime and Dan Seung-gi in Wok of Love.

Park Ho-san portrays Do-soo Yang, a Seoul gang boss who hires Tae-goo for a mob hit. He later betrays Tae-goo and aligns himself with Sang-Gil as part of a political deal. Park portrayed Kang Chul-doo in Prison Playbook (a Netflix TV show) and Seo-Yeon’s father in The Call.

Bong-sik Hyun As Busan Ilbo

Bong-sik Hyun briefly appears as Busan Ilbo, a Korean mobster who targets Kuto. The Bukseong gang promises him a deal with the Russians, but he receives a big surprise at Jeju island. Hyun portrayed Kim Chang-Wook in Hyena and Detective Bok Ho-Nam in the 2021 TV series Mouse.
