Nicole Kidman Watches Exorcist & Child’s Play in Funny AMC Parody Video

A video creator has posted a parody of a recent AMC Theatres advertisement starring Nicole Kidman, and it certainly puts a hilariously dark spin on the ad. The original advertisement was made back in September of 2021 and it is currently playing before films showing at AMC Theatres. The advertisement depicts Kidman sitting in a cinema, watching clips from box-office hits and classic movies alike.

The original advertisement almost certainly has its roots in an argument that was constant for cinemas like AMC in 2021: cinema or streaming. The ad plays as a push to convince audiences to return to the theatre with Kidman making statements highlighting the theatrical experience: “we come to this place for magic”, and “that indescribable feeling when the lights begin to dim.” The actress then proceeds to watch the classic films with what could be described as calm awe.

However, when YouTube user Cleverkio re-edited the video, this calm awe took on a new and hilarious meaning. In the parody video, all the clips of classic films have been swapped out for clips from horror films. With the new edit, Kidman’s attitude seems to hilariously shift from reverence for the cinema to a more sadistic pleasure as she darkly smiles to the screams of Regan from The Exorcist, as well as stating that it makes her feel “not just entertained, but somehow reborn” as Chucky takes a bite out of someone’s arm in Child’s Play. The video finally ends with the AMC logo being shown over the sounds of someone dying at the hands of Leatherface’s chainsaw in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.

The video itself is actually edited quite convincingly. The clips from the horror movies line up perfectly with the screen Kidman is watching, and the audio doesn’t feel out of place at all. Indeed, viewers who are unfamiliar with the original advertisement may actually be momentarily tricked into thinking that this is a real (although admittedly strange) ad for AMC. The only real giveaway is that a character in one of the clips drops an F-Bomb (which AMC would most likely censor).

Parody or no, the argument could be made that the video still gets the original message of the advertisement across. Fans of the horror genre will certainly watch this video and be reminded of their favorite moments they experienced in the theatre. While hilarious, the video still does manage to convey a certain passion for the genre, which will likely put fans in the mood to rewatch their favorite scary movie. It also highlights the hilarity of the Nicole Kidman ad, something that has become a memeable trend over the past few months after the advertisement has been released.
