Nick Fury Returns To Earth In Marvel’s Secret Invasion Trailer

The first action-packed Secret Invasion trailer has been released, showing Nick Fury’s dangerous return to Earth. After first being introduced in the post-credits of 2008’s Iron Man, Samuel L. Jackson’s Fury has become a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fury has appeared in a host of other MCU films as a supporting player, but now, the iconic character is now set to star in Secret Invasion, his very own Disney+ series. The show will adapt the Marvel Comics storyline of the same name, which sees alien Skrulls infiltrate the highest echelons of the Marvel universe.

Despite continuing to place an important role in the MCU, Fury spends much of Phases 3 and 4 working from space, with Spider-Man: Far From Home‘s post-credits scene revealing that Fury and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) are actually Talos and Soren in disguise. After Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is brought in for questioning in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the Department of Damage Control reveals that Fury’s actually been in space for an entire year at that point. Now, however, the S.H.I.E.L.D. Director is ready to plant his feet firmly on Earth once more for a dangerous new mission with Secret Invasion.

As part of Marvel Studios’ presentation at Disney’s D23 Expo, the first Secret Invasion trailer has been released, teasing a mysterious Skrull infiltration and Fury’s attempts to stop it. The video sees Fury reuniting with the likes of Hill, James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn). Check out the new trailer below:

The new Secret Invasion trailer teases that the upcoming show will feel tonally different from previous MCU Disney+ shows, with Jackson’s more serious Fury coming back in full force. In addition to the action that fans have come to expect from the MCU, Secret Invasion also teases that Fury will be back to working in the shadows as something of a lone wolf, attempting to stop the Skrull invasion all on his own, much in the same vein as Captain America: The Winter Soldier. After all, as Fury has made abundantly clear throughout his time in the franchise, he’s a man who doesn’t trust very many people, especially when any number of them could actually be Skrulls.

In addition to Jackson, the trailer for Secret Invasion also shows off many of the series’ impressive supporting actors, including Emilia Clarke, who is best known for her work in Game of Thrones, and Olivia Colman, best known for The Favourite. It remains to be seen how Fury will get along with some of the MCU’s newest characters in Secret Invasion, but it seems likely that he’ll have to learn to work with others if the Skrull invasion is to be successfully repelled, including teaming back up with Mendelsohn’s Talos. No official release date has been given for the new series just yet, but it’s expected to drop in the spring of 2023 between Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
