“Next God of Destruction” – Dragon Ball Super Confirms Gohan’s Shocking New Power Level

Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Super, chapter #103

Gohan’s new Beast form in Dragon Ball Super has elevated his power to unbelievable new levels. While demonstrating this power on Beerus’ World, Whis makes a surprising note: Gohan’s power might now make him a candidate for God of Destruction.

In chapter #103 of Dragon Ball Super, as Gohan battles his father Goku, Whis and Beerus are among the spectators of the fight, judging Gohan’s new power for themselves. Gohan manages to impress Angel and God alike by landing a hit on Goku while he’s utilizing Ultra Instinct, a technique that allows his body to react to incoming blows almost instantaneously.

“Next God of Destruction” – Dragon Ball Super Confirms Gohan’s Shocking New Power Level

Goku soon encourages Gohan to battle against Broly as well, and Gohan’s wild new power stands up even to Broly’s raw strength after mastering Super Saiyan status for himself. That’s when Whis suggests Gohan might be a suitable candidate to become the next God of Destruction, a shocking statement but one that makes sense considering Gohan’s new power level.

Gohan Joins an Elite Group of Candidates As a Perspective God of Destruction

Dragon Ball Super by Akira Toriyama and Toyotarou, chapter #103, “A Legacy Toward the Future”

In Dragon Ball Super, there’s an exceptionally small number of characters who’ve had the honor of even being considered for the position of God of Destruction. In the Tournament of Power, fans were introduced to Top, a character who’s already been chosen as the next God of Destruction for Universe 11. His compatriot Jiren is also said to be fighting at the level of a Destroyer God. Universe 9’s Supreme Kai noted that Frieza would make a good God of Destruction, and, of course, Beerus has taken an interest in Goku and Vegeta because he feels they could be suitable successors as well.

Gohan Is Officially Among The Elite Of The Universes

Gohan now joins this small, elite club, being recognized for having power that could grow to the levels of a God of Destruction, acknowledging how incredibly strong he’s become as a result of his new form. While Beerus quickly dismisses the idea of Gohan becoming a God of Destruction due to his “straitlaced” personality, it’s important to note that this rejection has nothing to do with the level of strength Gohan has demonstrated. Beerus seemingly has no doubt that Gohan possesses the power of a Destroyer; he only lacks the temperament.

The idea of Gohan becoming a God of Destruction candidate is certainly an interesting one to tease, although Beerus’ assessment of Gohan’s personality is probably right. It does suggest that Beerus might be open to training Gohan the way that he has been training Goku and Vegeta, which would be a pathway to even greater power than he already possesses. With threats like Black Frieza still out there waiting to be dealt with, Goku and Vegeta may need all the help they can get, and they’re already quite used to training with and fighting alongside Gohan.

Whether anything will become of this tease remains up in the air, and likely will remain unanswered for some time, given Dragon Ball Super‘s recently announced hiatus. Regardless, Beerus and Whis’ assessment of Gohan’s ability is an impressive accolade for the half-Saiyan warrior, especially considering he had been relatively out of practice until recently. While Destroyer God Gohan isn’t likely to be coming, the fact that he was even evaluated speaks volumes about his progress in Dragon Ball Super.
