New WandaVision Deleted Scene Finally Answers A Big MCU Mystery, 2 Years Later

Marvel Studios’ first Disney+ series, WandaVision, created many mysteries in Phase 4 of the MCU, and one has now been answered over two years since the series’ premiere in 2021. Focusing on Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch, and Paul Bettany’s Vision, WandaVision kicked off the MCU’s Phase 4 in the wake of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. The series explored Wanda’s grief in vivid detail, with each episode expanding on her relationship with Vision, while taking inspiration from different time periods of TV sitcoms between the 1950s and the present day. WandaVision also left many questions unanswered, however, particularly concerning Evan Peters’ debut in the MCU proper.

In WandaVision’s premiere, Randall Park’s FBI Agent Jimmy Woo reveals that one resident of Westview, New Jersey, is in the witness protection program, but the series never reveals who this individual actually is. A new deleted scene from WandaVision’s finale (via IGN) confirms that the missing witness is actually Evan Peters’ MCU character. Peters first appeared under the guise of a resurrected Pietro Maximoff, who was originally portrayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but was later revealed to be actor Ralph Bohner, whom Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness had enchanted. WandaVision’s deleted scene, however, seems to suggest a more substantial role for Evan Peters in the MCU’s future.

Will Evan Peters Return In The MCU’s Future?

Evan Peters originally appeared as Peter Maximoff, a.k.a. Quicksilver, in Fox’s X-Men Universe, debuting in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. Following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, future X-Men films were canceled ahead of an X-Men reboot planned for the MCU, which left Peters’ future as the speedster uncertain. His MCU debut in the final moments of WandaVision episode 5, “On a Very Special Episode…,” caused a stir of theories and rumors suggesting Fox’s X-Men characters may be introduced to the MCU, though WandaVision’s finale debunked this by revealing Peters to actually be Ralph Bohner, who had been masquerading as Quicksilver while under Agatha Harkness’ spell.

Despite Evan Peters’ WandaVision character seemingly being insignificant, the new deleted scene reveals that he is actually the missing witness, which also suggests that Ralph Bohner is not his real name, but one given to him when he went into hiding. This could tease a greater role for Peters in the MCU’s future, particularly since he has now escaped from the FBI’s radar. It’s possible that Evan Peters could return to the MCU as Quicksilver, especially after several other characters from Fox’s X-Men Universe have appeared in the MCU, including Professor X, Beast, and Deadpool and Wolverine in an upcoming project.
