New Silent Hill Game Likely Confirmed By Konami & Bloober Partnership

It’s believed a new Silent Hill game could be in development with none other than Bloober Team, the studio behind horror games including Layers of Fear and The Blair Witch. Bloober Team has officially revealed a partnership with Konami, leading to the belief that the iconic Silent Hill series is now in the studio’s hands. The development team’s most recent game, The Medium, drew many comparisons to Silent Hill, and even featured music from the series’ composer.

Rumors of a new Silent Hill have been rife since the cancellation of the series reboot, Silent Hills. Silent Hills was to be directed by legendary game developer Hideo Kojima, before the project was dissolved in 2015. The game was revealed with a playable demo called P.T, which was removed from the PlayStation Store following the game’s cancellation. After Kojima split from Konami shortly after, he and his studio Kojima Productions went on to create 2019’s Death Stranding, featuring actor Norman Reedus, who was originally planned to star in Silent Hills. While previous rumors have hinted at Kojima’s return for a new Silent Hill, it appears that Bloober Team will be helming the project instead.

Bloober has confirmed the “strategic partnership of Konami Digital Entertainment and Bloober Team,” suggesting the developer and publisher will be working together to release a new game. Announcing the news in a press release, Konami said it is “excited to work with Bloober Team and other highly regarded development partners to produce games from existing and new IPs.” With Bloober’s history of horror games, the announcement has led many to believe the Silent Hill series is now in the studio’s hands. VGC reports that along with a Bloober Silent Hill, Konami has also outsourced “at least oneSilent Hill project to a Japanese studio. While Konami has yet to confirm any development on a new game in the series, it’s looking more and more likely.

Rumors of a Silent Hill game from Bloober Team began earlier this year, when the company’s CEO Piotr Babieno teased the studio’s next project is with a “very famous gaming publisher” and noting it will “cause quite a stir” when eventually revealed. Unfortunately, it’s not clear when Konami plans to announce its future games. Ahead of E3 2021, Konami issued a statement telling fans it was “not ready” to present any new games, but confirmed “we are in deep development on a number of key projects.

Further hints that Bloober Team is working on a new Silent Hill come from acclaimed composer Akira Yamaoka. Following his work on The Medium, Yamaoka claimed to be working on a second project for Bloober Team. “I think it’s the one that you’re kind of hoping to hear about,” he teased at the time. Yamaoka also stated he believed fans would hear more this summer, and while that’s yet to happen, it’s hoped news of the Konami and Bloober partnership means a Silent Hill announcement is imminent.
