With many of Shonen Jump’s big manga nearing their end such as One Piece and My Hero Academia, fans have been wondering what could possibly replace these massive hits. Fortunately for anxious fans, a Shonen Jump initiative known as the NEXTWAVE has launched that seeks to find the next big manga. Three have been chosen and one of them named Kagurabachi has made a big splash on social media without a single chapter being released.
Shueisha’s Tezuka award is where authors can finally display their superior writing and artistic ability and get the chance for their manga to be published by the publishing powerhouse. The winners are decided by Masashi Kishimoto, Eichiro Oda, Akira Toriyama, and other iconic Shonen Jump creators. The fact that Kagurabachi was selected as Shonen Jump’s next big thing by these legends speaks to how good the manga is. In a Tweet from Shonen Jump’s official Twitter account, they announced the hot new manga “Kagurabachi by Takeru Hokazono joins the weekly Shonen Jump lineup! A former swordsmith apprentice embarks on a bloodthirsty path against a gang of sorcerers who have taken over the city!“
Shonen Jump is Hyping Kagurabachi To Be Its Next Big Hit
Dark shonen like Hell’s Paradise have taken over the manga and anime industry and Kagurabachi appears to be the latest one yet. The main reason the upcoming release has fans in a frenzy is the main character Chihiro. He is a sword user and his black hair ironically makes him stand out from other colorful main characters. His gloomy red eyes, dark cloak, and overall character equaled love at first sight for good reason. Having a sword fighter be a main character is particularly interesting for Shonen Jump as that role is often dominated by side characters such as Sasuke or Zoro.
It’s astonishing to see the hype behind this manga since barely anything is known about it besides the short synopsis from Shonen Jump’s Twitter account. Amazingly, the first chapter has already been leaked which doesn’t often happen for new series. Usually, only popular manga like One Piece are leaked before release. This speaks to the anticipation for the series. This doesn’t come as a surprise, however, as the dark and gloomy personality of the main character makes this manga stand out among other series. It averts the happy-go-lucky main characters who are generally more positive like Tanjiro from Demon Slayer or Deku from My Hero Academia.
Kagurabachi’s Main Character Is One Of Shonen Jump’s Darkest Ever
The story focuses on Chihiro, a former swordsmith turned swordsman. He is out for revenge against a bunch of sorcerers who have taken over a city. What motivated him on a path of vengeance is unknown yet. The power system appears to be similar to that of Jujutsu Kaisen’s, with the main character having floating koi fish around him. The plot sounds promising, but the art quality is really what sells it. Fans have been pleased to see a talented artist like Takeru Hokazono take the helm of a manga series and bring something fresh to the world’s most popular manga magazine. The dynamic art and action-packed story will catapult Kagurabachi to even greater heights as it looks to replace Shonen Jump’s manga giants.
Shonen Jump’s Kagurabachi will be available on Monday, September 18, most likely on Manga Plus.
